I dont KNOW it, im just being logical. In this draft, there is better value at WR with our second pick. Britt, and/or Robiske should be there. In the 1st, I agree that it may be a DE, but only Tyson Jackson seems to warrant a 1st rd Pick and there is a fair chance he is gone. I would not be surprised if the pick is actually 1) TE Brandon Pettigew 2) CB Vonte Davis or Malcom Jenkins (depending on how he runs today he may be long gone) 3) Percy Harvin. But keep in mind that taking Harvin does not fill the void we have at WR.
I doubt Pettigew or Davis will be the pick. Jenkins maybe but if we were to go with a CB/S I'd want Sean Smith. And there is no way we'd pick Harvin over some other WR that would be there like Nicks or Britt. I see us going WR 1st round if Sanchez is off the board and DE in 2nd like Gibbert.
While a DE is not out of the question, I highly doubt it. We've been doing nothing but stockpiling on the defensive side of the ball for weeks, to the exclusion of our offense. Not only is WR a dire need, we have no real depth on the O-line. I agree with you on better WR value in the 2nd round however. Whatever it is that we've been doing in F/A, one thing is for sure: Tannengbaum is positioning himself to have a lot of options open for himself... options that free him up and allow him to either make a great pick or move to an even greater pick.
Lito signed a 1 year deal no way we give him $10 mil next year so we could take a CB & both of our ends are over 30 so we could take a DE. We could also go RB Jones is going to be 31 & is asking for a new contract. WR & QB do I even have to say why?
It depends what you want really. Based on the Jets recent moves i think they are trying to build an elite team that can in the long term. That means that year 1 may be devoted to building a dominant defense and then focusing on offense down the road. IF the front office loves DHB or Nicks, then go for it. But, in my opinion, there is not much difference between DHB and Robiske in terms of potential. Sure DHB is faster, but Robiske is a great route runner and has better hands. The point is, from a VALUE prospective, we may be better off going WR in the 1st round. Pettigrew may be there, and if he is I think we take him. Dustin Keller, unfortunately, is not going be your every down true TE in this offense. There are plenty of things he can be, but not a real TE. Pettigrew may be that guy. If he is gone, we may look to Tyson Jackson, a prototypical 3-4 DE that posses ideal explosion for that position. He is also going to be able to move inside on passing downs. A tremendous value. Im not sold on Vonte Davis (too inconsistent at the collegiate level) but if Malcolm Jenkins is there, how do we pass that up? Sure we have Sheppard but we are really only committed to him for 1 year and there may have been a reason he was on the PHI bench (we can hope, but...) Harvin would be a guy who brings explosion to an offense. I think people underestimate just how good his vision is. He is somthing of a unique talent. That being said, to justify a 1st round pick you have to believe 1) He is an exceptional PR/KR which may be true but he didnt do it at Florida 2) He will become a great rote runner and a true WR/
I don't know what I like less about this guy. The fact that I was totally unaware of who he was because he did precisely nothing when I attended Maryland-NC State(2 catches for 28 yards), or the fact that every scouting report about him basically affirms what a bust he is. Positives- Fast, explosive in and out of his cuts. Jumps high. Fast. Athletic. Negatives- Rounds off routes. Lazy/unpolished route runner/inconsistent hands This guy has R Jay Soward written all over him. His production doesn't wow, even for a run heavy team. There's nothing to suggest that he's done anything other than get by on his incredible athleticism at this point. You need to do more at the next level. -X-
If we're going WR first, I'd take Britt and Nicks before i go with DHB. Poor route running, average hands, and not much physicality. Britt and Nicks aren't as fast, but they are much more polished.
Ahahahahaha...what a comparison - Soward is a TV repairman now. (I'm sticking to Troy Williamson 2.0 -- I don't know if DHB will drink himself out of the league like R Jay Soward.)
What has been said about his hands, route running, blocking and heart going of the middle to make the tough catches.
I think I have learned me lesson about guys who dont have great game tape and do well at the combine. I hear the draft is pretty deep with wr I say we wait till the 2nd round
Yes, I do have answers. Hands - From what I've seen, DHB lets the ball get to his body way too much. Sometimes, he catches the ball with just his hands, like a receiver should. When he has separation, I guess it's okay for him to catch the ball with his body...but in the NFL, if the ball gets anywhere near his pads, it's going to get knocked loose. Route Running - DHB rounds off almost every single one of this routes. Blocking - DHB was asked to block a lot in Maryland's run-oriented offense. He did a very, very good job blocking down field -- I will never question his blocking ability. Tough Catches? - I've seen DHB make a few circus catches, but he almost never takes hits right after the catch. In simpler terms: he's a pussy...and the Maryland coaching staff knew it. Heart - Never, ever goes over the middle. However, he does go all-in when he's blocking.
Too bad whoever wrote DHB is "willing" to go over the middle and make tough catches is wrong. 1. I never said anything about him not catching jump balls...but he's not consistent in that part of his game either though -- he doesn't know how to use his height. 2. I never said he was a punishing or "violent" blocker, but he gets downfield and tries to create space for the Terps' tailbacks.
