It was meaningless because Mariano would have saved it anyway. It's not like it gave them the lead. If anything it was bad because now Mariano didn't get credit for a save.

As soon as he hit it I thought of the same thing.

The game went as we all pretty much expected. Yankees winning by hammering the BP.
Its nice to get the opening win and a win with Carl "pussy" Pavano on the mound.
I'm sure he will have many more starts that will mirror this one.
I like how Phelps was patient at the plate but he gives me the Kingman scares whenever he is the field. I would rather have Giambi at 1st than him.
I would also rather have Melky in left and Matsui as the DH but Joe would never do that.
Tied for first with the Jays!

As long as the defense doesn't constantly screw him over, Pavano could pitch like this all season long if he wants. He was much better than his line indicates, the defense let him down a bunch of times.

Exactly. I don't see how anyone could have any problem with the way he pitched yesterday. Did he pitch like an ace? No. Is he supposed to? Nope. If we get that sort of performance from him all year, we're in good shape at the bottom of the rotation. We're not going to have a lot of multiple error games, so he'll get wins.

The Yanks showed that the winter didn't change their personality of patience at the plate. Getting a staff's ace to throw dozens of pitches early is a big key to our success. Very good to see.

Speaking of good to see, ARod's performance was huge. I just saw a clip of him post-game, and he joked about feeling like a moron early after the error, but he laughed it off when he talked about making up for it. I really, really, hope that homer got him on the right track. If he's going to play MVP level again, we're in very good shape.

Maybe Jeter not being "perfect" yesterday helped Alex. At least ARod didn't have to feel like he was the only guy who made a bad play. The fans really have to get behind him right now. It's obvious that he plays better when he gets the love. So give it to him! I'm fully on board. I actually told my brother during the game, I'm taking his side until he shows me he doesn't deserve it.

    Any update on Damon?

Did the Orioles lose last night?

I can't wait to hear the Stadium when Andy hits the mound. It's going to be insane.

Lots of rain in the forcast tomorrow. I have tickets to go and am confused. I wonder if they would postpone it to Thursday afternoon and play a doubleheader, or move it later in the season.

Since it's a division opponent, they should move it to later in the season. That makes the most sense.

Hopefully it will get pushed to later in the year. It would suck if Andy started his pregame warmups just to be told he wasn't pitching. Our rotation can't afford things like that right now.

The better advantage would be if it is pushed to later in the year early in the day. Then he doesn't even have to warmup and he can pitch the next game, moving everyone down a day. That's one less start missed by Wang.

How does that work though? Who makes the decision on when a game gets moved to? Is it the league? Or do the teams decide?

Any truth to the rumor that they're pushing back the start time?

-Damon is out for today's game.

What time is the game supposed to be to begin with? I thought YES said 1pm, but ESPN said 7:30pm yesterday.

Is there any news on how Damon is? Amazing how dropping Bernie is already haunting us. Maybe this is Melky's big break though. I hope he makes the best of it.

Nope. I assume later in the year.

Also a note: They announced on 1050 ESPN Radio that Damon won't be in the lineup in the "near future" and it might be a "long term" injury. Apparently, he couldn't move his right leg. That's really weird.

Did Bernie put some voodoo hex on Damon?

    How did he hurt it?

By all accounts, he was going back on a homer in Game 1, and pulled up a little bit after it went over the wall. Didn't seem like anything serious. We were actually surprised when he was taken out of the game.

    It says "cramps" on mlb.com

Hmmm, Damon is usually the kind of player that gets dinged up over the course of the season. Lots of little things. I wonder if age is catching up with him?

Good thing we didn't trade Melky. Bernie would be in center right now otherwise.
