Good point. If only the problem were as simple as "run the ball more" or "get xxx more involved in the offense". The Jets offensive gameplan, if it can even be called such is the NFL equivalent of a Ponzi scheme. Ooh and Ahh as they open the game with an 8 minute drive only to be shut out the rest of the game. Problem is after 3 years the Jets are still buying into this nonsense.
Coach Madden had a related comment during the Giants vs Panthers tonight. He said basically football is a simple game. And if you find a play that is working, good teams just keep doing it until the other team stops you. It's that easy. If you run the ball successfully, keep running the ball. The Giants use that basic plan to gain 300 yards on the ground tonight and win their game. But the Jets OC and DC have forgotten Madden's little truism. They believe we have to out-think and out-trick everyone to be competitive. That somehow basic playcalling is something to be ashamed of. Even if it allows a team of superior talent (the Jets) to defeat a lesser team (the Seahawks). Basic playcalling just doesn't show how clever the OC is. Today was the perfect example of how the Jets coaching staff can miss the obvious that any message board fool already knows: Bad weather -> run the ball more. Leon Washington often does something spectacular when he gets the gall -> so give it to him more. Bad weather -> use screens & slants more often so guys can still get yards after catch. How can the OC miss these things? Schotty is no longer the boy genius but the village idiot.
