Ok, what does this have to do with anything? What do preseason expectations have to do with the reality of how bad the Jets were last year? Chad Pennington is not the sole difference between a 9-10 win team and a 4 win team. That's all you have to say.

You're absolutely right JUNC. Its not about fantasy stats. Since I didn't mention fantasy or even alluded to it, I'm at a loss as to where your statement originated.

Moving right along, its about consistency. We have seen more good than bad or we couldn't be 9-6 but man, when Bad Chad shows up, he really stinks up the joint. When Good Chad shows up, we win. This two headed monster is scarey man.

This is Chad's first FULL SEASON as a starter and its almost as if he's getting used to playing every game for the first time. His arm might be tired. Hard to say right? We finally have a full season's body of work to judge Chad on and for some strange reason, we are still seeing basically the same Chad Pennington.

Again, I don't think 3 more years will change much unless we take the Bears/Ravens route to the SB. Just enough offense, dominant D. I'll take that any day of the week make no mistake.

why would you want a QB that could put up a 64% comp. and 3000+ yrds for the next 3 seasons. i dont have a problem with it.

It's been proven, when Chad plays we have a great chance to win and when he doesn't we have a great chance to lose.

people seem to forget that Chad is coming off 2 surgeries on his throwing shoulder AND is playing in a new offense PLUS he hasn't had a running game. For people to expect everything to go smooth all year it wasn't realistic. To even be 9-6 is a great achievement and Chad is the biggest reason why we are 9-6.

He's coming off TWO shoulder surgeries w/in the 2 years. yeah he's had to make adjustments and he's learning new things. he'll be much better next year but while he did get adjusted to playing again and trusting his shoulder he's done a damn good job for us.

People make a big deal about his INts but how many of those came in garbage time of games? I would say at least 6 or 7 w/o looking it up. The bottom line is he wins.

First off, the fact that Chad has missed so many games is a huge black mark against him, not a tool to prove how great a QB he is. All the Jets record without Pennington proves is that he's better then 03 Vinny, Brooks Bollinger and 05 Vinny. And I don't think you'd find anyone to argue you on that count.

Now that the Jets finally have a QB on the roster that people can get excited about there is predictably a rise in displeasure at what Pennington brings to the table and a desire to see what they have in Clemens.

He is getting older and believe it or not the body, particularly one of an athlete starts deteriorating not getting stronger as they age. Ligaments, joints, muscles and particularly the legs all get stiffer and more brittle. Reaction time drops and even eye sight deteriorates. Getting older isn't for the timid.

Chad has not gotten physically better this year, he has gotten worse physically as the year has gone forward. He's best games came early in the year.

Unlike most QB's who get smarter with age and lose a little off their fastball, Chad no longer has a fast ball to lose a little off of. He is likely to continue to be exactly what he is, a physically limited smart QB. If we can continue to build an elite team around him and he can hold up during the rebuilding process he just might be good enough. To expect him to get physically better than he is now while moving into the twilight of his career is just pure speculation.

Most people agreed (myself included) that if the Jets were bumped from the playoff race, we should see what Clemens could do while playing out the string. That didn't happen, so Pennington should continue to start until the CS see's fit to make a change.

That said I don't think CP is the guy for the next 3 year, but I'll be damned if I'm not going to enjoy what he's helped the team accomplish this year.

I agree his injury history is a negative but he was healthy this year and hopefully will be in the future. Remember early in phill Simms' career he couldn't stay on the field then he became an ironman. You never know.

    he's 30 not 38.

he has lost some zip as the year has gone on but that was to be expected.

Remember he's doing this w/ no running game and in 2002 he led us back from 1-4, 2-5 to a div title and ld the NFL in passing despite Curtis' worst full season where he barely gained 1,000 yds.

I absolutely do want him here as our starting QB. If he can stay healthy, we can definately win with him under center.

If we keep winning, it wouldn't matter if the dismal, Eli Manning, was back there.

If Pennington produces, he deserves to play; that simple. If he doesn't or goes on another long injury hiatus; it is time to move on.

Please no more of him. I love Chad but if this is our future Im sorry but we will never go anywhere. He did win us some games but he will never take us to the superbowl. Do you forget the games in the playoffs against san diego and pittsburgh? Both games all we needed were a couple of plays from him and he didnt come through. We got lucky getting by san diego but not pittsburgh. We should have beat pitt. He is not one of the top quarterbacks in theleague. What if we do get more offensive weapons? Doese it matter when he cant throw to him down field? Granted that pass to Cotch against miami was a thing of beauty, dont know where it came from. But then again he threw a floater before that, that should have been intercepted then everyone would have hated him. Leon Washington won that game not chad, dont forget all his yardage come from runs after the catch.

While CP is the ultimate team player he does bring several throwing limitations to the field which have been mentioned here over & over again. You have to understand that M & T JOB is to make the TEAM as strong as possible for the CHAMPIONSHIP run not worry about a player & his feelings. Since we ALL know about Penny & his arm it becomes a matter if the CS wants to risk a weak armed QB Penny or go for the big armed QB that can make ALL the throws. Who amongst you saw Cutler's 64yd rainbow several weeks ago? What I am saying is that is exactly why Shanny benched the snake cause he knew that the snake would not bring home the SB bacon which is the reason the saeson is played for of course

He played a great game at San Diego in 04. Probably his 2nd best game just behind the 41-0 drubbing of the Colts in 02.

You don't remember the bomb to Moss? Chad was great in that game. 23/33 279 2 TDs 0 INTs

And can people stop with the "I love Chad" disclaimer, its bullshit..

It was Chad's fault we didn't win in Pittsburgh? Please. Brien missed two kicks and Herm (surprise) called plays way too conservative, especially at the end of the game. I blame Chad for the second round loss to Oakland, but that's really it.

Chad played awful in that game, the only reason we were in it was because of our defense and special teams.

This is the double standard I'm talking about junc. Pennington got the benefit of a special teams and defensive TD and managed to lead the offense to only 3 points. Brien certainly deserves some of the blame, but Pennington didn't play well enough to win under any reasonable definition of the phrase.
