Yup that was a very winnable game and a heartbreaker - herm donked it up by kneeling instead of TRYING to gain a few more yards for the winner.

You dont think he can be the same guy vs. GB and Indy in 02, for a 4week stretch in January?

Maybe Brien misses the kick anyway, but Herm did what we all laughed at Marty for doing and costing his team the game the week before. Let's just have some consistency here.

I seem to remember him playing very well in that game. It was a glorious victory that gave us all supreme hope going to Pitt.

Obviously Herm didn't actually kick anything - I never said he did. You have to admit that was one of the biggest donk calls of all time though.

I didn't like the decision but the K has to make the kick, losing 2 yards didn't make Brien miss as he hooked it. If he was short I could buy that argument but from 47 he missed by inches, if he kicks it the same way we win.

Of course he can be but he needs help from his teammates. In oak '02 Chrebet and Coles dropepd a bucnh of balls and the Ol couldn't keep pressure off him. If the O plays well as a team then he can absolutely play like that.

So you were OK with Marty packing it in and being satisfied with a 40 yard FG attempt the week before? Doing it in SD is one thing, but not trying to gain more yards in the freezing cold in Pittsburgh was insane. It's the toughest place to kick the NFL. The kick was within Brien's range but trusting him from that distance in that stadium was lunacy.

kaeding has to make that kick. Were you ok w/ mangini sitting on the ball on Mon Night? After we lost yards on 2nd down it could have been a kick n the upper 30s but kuckily we gained a few on 3rd down to make it about 31.

brien had just missed by inches from 47, that was fresh in his mind. The thinking was to center the ball and allow him to do the same from 4-5 yards closer but he hooked it.

Did Mangini call for a knee on 3rd down after they lost yards on 2nd? Why would I have a problem with it? Anyway, my opinion is that once you get inside the 20 you're justified in killing the clock at the expense of going for the throat if it's a game winning situation. SD was outside the 20 and since they were in sudden death the clock was not a consideration.

Is this the story now? I thought that someone(Moss?) called a TO too early and Herm was so afraid of there being 3 or 4 seconds left on the clock after the kick he called for the kneel down.

Well I voted yes because I'm a Pennington fan. If Mangini decides otherwise before the three years is up, I'll happily root for Clemens. I think the future at QB looks pretty darned good.

And Mangini can be trusted to know when the time is to anoint a new starter. I wouldn't think he'll have a guy out there past his point of ineffectiveness (i.e. Edwards and Curtis Martin last year).
