That didn't work too good for him. Yes, I would bet you're in the minority The person who suggested the 8 was his IQ was prolly right.
The "8" is probably an infinity symbol, either that or his frat has some kind of "8 principles" or the original 8 founders or whatever. As for why he did it... It was part of his frat initiation. The ones that are the "coolest" also have the most hardcore initiation rituals. There were tons of pledges who were rejected and deemed unworthy of getting branded, as crazy as that sounds. Coples said that everyone has tattoos nowadays, so he wanted to go beyond the ordinary. And he's right - 50 years ago tattoos were considered shocking to polite society. Nowadays, every other 20 year old has like 5 tattoos. Maybe they're meaningful tattoos, but it's just not shocking. If you want that same "holy shit why would anyone do that to their body?" reaction a small tattoo had in the 1940s; in the 2010s you need to do something more hardcore like branding. Also maybe o-linemen see it and think "if he did that to himself, what's he gonna do to me!?"
You're probably right about the shock value or extra layer of signficance. IMO any OL who sees the brands and is afraid thinking "what's he gonna do to me?" doesn't belong in the NFL. They ought to be thinking about what they're gonna do to him.
Offensive linemen are the Hells Angels of the NFL, those men are nasty on the field, it's going to take more than a brand to scare them.
He literally put up zero stats during his time in Miami.....not even a tackle. What a bust .....another wasted Jets draft pick
lol was just going to post that Chuck Connors, what a character. I remember we had our own version of that song as kids: Stranded...on the toilet BOWL What can you do when you're stranded...and you don't have a roll To prove you're a man you could wipe it with your hand.... Stranded..on the toilet bowlllll _
