Dwayne Robertson

Discussion in 'New York Jets' started by mwjr, Aug 9, 2006.

  1. It's comments like these that give Jet fans a bad name. Say what you will about the 2 draft picks we gave up for him..but D rob is far from a bum. He's been an above average player for us who at the top of his game can be dominant. It's unfortunate that his health in question but in no way should his name bring fighting words to Jets nation.

Would you rather have Shane Burton, Steve Martin, Tom Barndt, James Reed, Ernie Logan, Erik Howard or Jason Wiltz? Robertson has brought going on 4 years of stability to a position we have been trying to fill since Klecko and Lyons. And that's WITH his knee problems.

Not just the young guys or the underachieving guys. Chad is starting fresh, so is Coles, Ellis and Coleman. Some overachieved som were great when healthy but I doubt any of that means jack shit to Mangini because that was a different time, with a different coach, in a different scheme.

Quoted for truth. Don't hate Dewayne for trade made to acquire him, its not his fault the Jets felt he was Sapp part II. Its a sahme that some fans will only look at Dewayne as "the guy we gave up two #1s for" and not what he is which is an above average DT.

No link Jay. Sorry... just from memory. It wasn't considered to be a real big issue at the time, as many, if not most linemen coming out of college have the problem to one degree or another. What is annoying is that it took so long to come out. With Robertson, it seems to have accelerated. I wasn't too worried until he missed some games because of it last year. Once they start to miss games.... it's serious. I don't think these very tough Mangini practices have helped him much. There is time to get him rested, and Mangini better do just that, or have no NT at all come week 1.

Excellent point deviljets, we, as fans, often look in the wrong direction to place blame, especially when it is unwarrented.

    Thanks Thunder.

If thats the case..as you said, its tough to blame the front office on that. (Bradway and Co.).

This is a big year for this kid. Either he learns to play through it...or he becomes an in and out guy for the rest of his career...however long that is.

Back to Martin, the Record has another long article about Martin today..has to be the third article they have done on him in the last 4 weeks. The first thing that dawned on me is that this is the first preseason where we havent been drilled to death on future superstars that either get cut...practice squad..or end up at the end of the bench. These writers are desperate for news.

While doing the search on Robertsons injury, I came across an article that had me cracking up. Herm was going off on what a superstar he will be (was written in his rookie year during TC).

Not knocking what has happened to Robertson so far, just that the media really had their news handed to them on a silver platter. This lack of information, although I will even admit seems a bit over the top, has been refreshing also.

I am pleased with D-Rob. I will admit though he is not the "next Warren Sapp" but even Sapp has not lived up to his expectations.. He has been fairly abysmal since leaving TB..

I still think he will become something to be proud of. I really wich we still had Fergie..

I wouldnt' call him a bust ... I believe he didn't stand out last year because of the "OTHER" Defensive Tackle. Hopefully this year he'll make the correct adjustment and be more seen
