Alot of replies to the original post - based on peoples response it seems that fans believe the Texans will take Leinart instead of Young, or Williams will fall to 4. Williams will not slide past 2: If NO does not like Williams, I suspect they will try to trade down to collect picks, and the incumbent will then select Williams at 4. If Leinart is selected by Titans at 3: Its likely the JETS will trigger the trade talks they have in-place with the Raiders and move to 7. Raiders will then take Young at 4 (Bush/Williams/Leinart/Young) That will leave Ferguson/Hawk/Davis Packers will take Ferguson (to protect Favre) at 5, 49ers will take Davis at 6 The JETS will either trade down again (to try to target Cutler at a lower number or decide to go with a QB in a later pick - ie Croyle/Clemmens/Whitehurst - in that order), or bite the bullett and take Cutler at 7, or go defense and take Hawk at 7 This strategy assures that they have the OPTION to get either Leinart at 4 or Cutler at 7, assuming Williams goes at 2 - which he will.
I agree!!...but I don't think it will come close to happening: 1) Tenn will take him at #3 2) Oak. may mortgage the farm to get him at #2 3) If he drops to us, our phone will be ringing off the hook with offers This FO is doing a great job rebuilding this team, highly unlikely to gamble on a QB w/ #4.....
Lets say the Jets do select Leinart, When do you think he would start or atleast play for the Jets in a real game?
If Chad is ready at the start of the season, I think Leinart will ride the bench at #2, and will probably play since Chad will probably get hurt again behind a shitty O-Line. If Chad isn't ready at the start of the season, I think he will beat out Ramsey for the starter job.
Leinart, Mangold,n the first? I could live with that. I have a feeling, however that Cutler may be a better fit in the Meadowlands winds come winter. Hey! The FO knows more than I do. I hope!
Exactly. I don't think Oakland is willing to chance what happens in Tennessee. Brooks is a stop gap. Leinart (USC) = Raiders franchise qb. Thus Saints will probably trade down to Oakland. When that happens, the Jets will take Mario Williams. Tennessee is in a win-win situation. They will take Young or Leinart. Draft goes like this: Texans: Bush Raiders (trade with NO): Leinart Titans: Young Jets: Mario Williams Packers: Cutler/ AJ Hawk 49'ers: Vernon Davis Saints (trade with OAK): Ferguson
Raiders trading up to 2 is highly unlikely, as is Ferguson falling to 7. Here is why: Saints FO has stated if they do trade down, they want to move down only a few spots. They will not want to move down so far (to 7). If they move down they want a sure chance to get either Williams or Ferguson. Best case, Ferguson goes at 2. Worst case, he goes at 5 to the Packers (Favre will insist on it). Best case, Williams goes at 2 and worst case goes at 4. That makes the only viable trade-down partners for the Saints - Titans, Jets, Packers, and 49ers. Packers and 49ers will not move-up, as they can get their man at the current spot (Ferguson/Hawk and Davis, respectively). That leaves the Titans and the JETS. Thats why in this years draft 3 and 4 are the power positions. The JETS are unlikely to move-up (80/20 chance, and thats being optimistic since W. Johnson is still licking his wounds from the Robertson transaction), if anything the JETS will look to move down. So that leaves the Saints - BUT if you believe the logic above - there is absolutely no need to move up. They can stay at 3, and have their pickings at QB - Leinart and Young.
Sorry again... I messed the last one-up... So that leaves the [TITANS] - BUT if you believe the logic above - there is absolutely no need to move up. They can stay at 3, and have their pickings at QB - Leinart and Young
