I've been saying this for awhile, but considering our team has been bad on both sides of the ball I'm not sure he's the only one who should go. Just look at the defense. They're even worse. Then again, when you only had four draft picks, and no real effort shown to get players in free agency with alot holes to fix, who is really to blame?
The worst offensive play caller in the league is Brian Billick...and he's supposed to be an offensive genius. I can't believe that jerkoff still has a job.
I think Schotty was fantastic last year. Although this year his playcalling has downgraded to a combination of predictable, routine, and sometimes laughable, he's still better than Paul Hackett. I do think it has something to do with our O-line being atrocious.
Exactly, you can not make chicken salad out of chicken shit, he is making lemon from lemonaide etc. The lack of Offensive line and talent prior to the last 3 weeks at the QB position have limited his play calling. However as KC gets acclimated to the NFL and Schott gets acclimated to him, the play calling should improve as the season progresses.
Little factiod anyone who didn't see the postgame probably missed: The Phins had the best defense in the NFL since week 8. When the players execute, the OC looks like a genius. When they don't, he's a moron. The fact is, he's looked bad this year because we SUCK. The team has underperformed all year. Blaming Schotty is just silly. He playcalls according to what 1) the team can realistically execute, and 2) what the defense can't stop. All year, both have added up to very little in the playbook. This week, he had the chance to open the book, and he did. The team then executed. It's amazing how he went from genius to dumbass in a year. Come on people. I've been seeing people demanding trick plays for weeks. Well, he did all day yesterday. What else do you want? No one even cares about winning around here anymore. It's just a race to find the next excuse to bitch every week. Sad, really.
Th defense helped the offense tremendously today. Either CP or KC at QB, the result would have been the same. I am just happy they won, a loss would have devastated this team.
QFT. The defense handed the game to the offense today. The difference between this game and the other games where the D showed up is that the offense finally capitalized on the D's opportunities this time. But I think that is more of a reflection of just how bad Miami is rather than the fact that the offense did anything special.
creativity is in the eyes of the beholder...... to have to resort to crazy QB set ups, shovel passes, and other trickery against a 0-11 opponent should not exactly sit well with us.... doing this crap against the steelers, colts, pats, etc etc is one thing but against the fish - i look at it as more of an indictment against the offense than smart "creativity" jil
I don't consider him better than Hackett.... Hackett and Schott are about equal in their predictability, but Hackett ran a more straight up, pound the ball and throw short passes offense, whereas Schott relies on misdirection.... When you're predictable, you're much more likely to have success on the ground if you line up in the I formation and just take it to the defense, as opposed to trying to trick them, when the whole world knows you're running.... That's one reason (although CERTAINLY not the only one, with Curtis Martin, and the offensive lines contributing GREATLY to any success the running game had under Hackett) that the running game has blown chunks since Schott's been here...
You have to mix it up especially against division rival....when we played the Steelers we threw in the flea flicker....these type of plays can really throw a defense off guard. Also what do you have to lose? Play calling this year as been real predictable.....to say the least.
Funny isn't it  The play calling over all has been a little boring and predictable. I would like to see him spice it up a bit. But this team as a whole has suffered through a bit of a sophmore jinx. I expect everything to be better in year 3. About Clemens - I still stand by my comments in a thread I created a little while back.
So we should have run a vanilla offense, with no trickery, against a team that can stop the straight-up run attack, and lose? Does anyone even care that we actually swept a division rival? We're a piss poor team. We managed not to lose to the only team without a win. Had we run a vanilla offense and lost, Schott would have been villified too. Not only can the Jets not win games, they can't win with the general fanbase either.
Agreed.....its always great to sweep a division rival. Even if they are winless, some people are never happy.
Alio, you forget these are Jets fans, unless they are bitching and moaning, they're not happy. Winning and losing is irrevelant, just look at this board the last 3 weeks for proof. 40 points? They should have scored 56. How come they let Miami score 13 points? It should have been a shut out. Conservative play calling - bitching, trick plays - bitching. blah blah blah...same bullshit
