Needless to say, if the line is shit, then Fitz will be shit and get undue blame. If the line wildly exceeds expectations, then Fitz will get undue credit for the resulting success.
To be honest, Fitz is pretty aware in the pocket. The reason we had so few sacks last year was because of Fitz. Breno and Brick were getting beat a lot.
Agreed. And awareness is a great trait for a quarterback. But over the course of a season, or even a game, if your average time to throw is reduced from 3 seconds to 2.5 because of a weak line, that will have a tremendous psychological effect on your quarterback. And the stats will reflect it. And everyone will look at the stats to determine whether Fitz is playing well or not.
[QUOTE="jetsfan32, post: 3480475, member: 2447"Fitz really does suck and you will all come to realize this by or before mid season when we're sitting at 3-5.[/QUOTE] I disagree. Fitz certainly doesn't 'suck'. He's not terrible. He actually won 10 games last season, 5 in a row towards the end when every team we played were playing hard. NE was playing for homefield throughout, but Fitz beat them with a fantastic fade to Decker for 7 in OT. We could very well be at 3-5, but it won't be because Fitz sucks. It will be because Fitz is somewhere between a good QB and a not-so-good QB, the right side of our o-line gets Fitz killed, our young 4-5-6 WRs run some wrong routs and drop a few too many balls, we miss Ivory's possessed running the first 8 games, someone important (Marshall? Decker? Pryor? Wilk? Richardson? Clady?) get injured, on and on. Fitz does not 'suck'. Sucky QBs don't win 10 games coming in off the bench after recovering from a broken leg. Is he Namath? Nope. But he's not Johnny Manziel either.
Sorry guys, but the fact that Marshall was or was not there does not mean a damned thing, nor does it escuse Fitz performance. Fitz has to get the ball to his receivers no matter who they are. So let's first take that excuse away. Our offense in general has been slow in getting started, and Fitz has been sluggish at best. But then again we have been pretty vanilla, and our game planning is sure to improve. Yet quite frankly, even though Fitz will be a great game manager, he has not proven he can stretch the field, so our rookie long distance weapons will be wasted. We still don't have a total weapon in the field that the Ds have to account for, so we better keep every game close with Fitz at the helm.
Fitz doesn't have to be great, but take care of the football tho. This will be key the whole way. I think the games will be tight. Limit the turnovers. Play field position. Win with D and ST. Easier said than done
