Still blows my mind that Hackett was dialing up empty sets against this DL with what we have at OT. Unfortunately, it seems like we'll need to keep a TE or RB on Duane's side for the next few weeks so they can chip the EDGE and give him some help. Hopefully he can bounce back and play decent going forward with some more reps but both he and Tomlinson are awful in both facets of the game right now.
Wow. That's bad. I wonder what the Giants OLine ranked against Dallas the week before. Brown and McGovern need to be benched immediately. Turner, Tomlinson, Tippman, AVT, Becton - literally can't be any worse.
Lots of great inputs on this thread. As I try to capture the common threads, not only was the OL completely schooled by Dallas great D but our offensive game plan was dismal and played right into the D strengths. 1- Main game plan was empty back field formations, the worst possible call with out OL and their overpowering D. 2- Completely under utilized the running game. Not only did we abandoned the running game after a few plays, but when we did insisted on running to the left where neither Brown nor Tomlinson could open up a gap. 3- Our strength was run to the right side aided by the TE and we completely disregarded that. 4- We gave Hall 4 catches. What in the world was that about 5- We used Cook more than Hall to no avail. Not one catch out of the back field that I recall 6- We had zero real looks and short passes to the RB change the tempo. TE play was non existent 7- Not one screen. Few roll outs but more in desperation that plan. 8- The center position, LT and potentially RT position is bottom of the league. 9- Zach started falling apart under pressure and had a few oh shits but if that was the game plan for him and this OL there wasn’t a QB out there that could pull that off. Pittman needs to step in, Brown needs to step down, AVT might man the RT position, the running game need to increase by a factor of two. Hackett needs to get his head out of the game plan for AR. Much needed changes need to occur or this team will implode in NE
1. Scheme better. And fortunately most opponents won't be as good as Dallas/Micah Parsons. 2. Right now, Brown and Tomlinson are absolutely killing them. One or both of them may need to be benched. Play Becton at LT, slide AVT to RT. Then sub Tippman for Tomlinson and Turner or Schweitzer at RG. McGovern also had a terrible game but that's not his norm 3. They have a FB, use him. And Ruckert has been a great blocker. Uzomah may need to be the 3rd TE
Telling joe d to fix the oline is like telling someone who knows nothing about fixing cars to fix a car. When you hire incompetent people they do incompetent things.
Can't wait for the news that Joe D brought in some unsigned FA olinemen to kick the tires on, or trades a 6th rounder for a backup, journeyman tackle who hasn't been solid (or healthy) in years. Here's the kicker-- Seattle and Baltimore went out yesterday and won with substantial injuries to their starting o-olines (Seattle lost both starting tackles in week 1). Jets are doing this WITH A STARTING, HEALTHY O-LINE-- which means this was "THE PLAN."
I have been banging this drum seemingly forever, but to fix the offensive line, you actually have to go out there and FIX the offensive line. That means, spending first and second round draft picks and paying for premium free agents, and ... most importantly ... if they don't work out, you have to CONTINUE to spend early picks and pay for premium free agents until the f-ing thing is FIXED. Defensive backs, running backs, wide receivers are all luxuries; the offensive line is a necessity.
Because these morons think the OLine is good!!! Over a week ago JD went onto Chris Long podcast and when Chris asked something like, which part of your team you are most happy with or something like that, he was saying how he was excited about OLine, how it improved, came around, etc... It's for the same reason he gave up a pick swap without care and rated McD and 2nd round tight end ahead of Jones and Harrison in the draft, why he only got Billy Turner to replace Fant and called it a day for Tackle, why they were saying they were QB away. It's mind blowing how badly they missed out on OLine year after year and stubbornly unable to admit their mistakes and doubling down on it.
A line that can’t pass block is not going to magically effectively run block. And if you start talking “ground and pound” then you might as well start talking about next year. “Ground and pound “ is a dusty old relic from a bygone NFL that doesn’t win in the modern game. What was the last “G&P” team that won anything? Todays NFL is all about the stud QB and the iron clad Oline, a concept that seems to continually elude the geniuses in the Jets front office
JD only goes to the old Linesmen Home to find guys to sign. All his off the street signings were guys who were done or almost done. He has a blind spot for the position even though he played the position. It will be his ultimate undoing.
I don't disagree, but the fact is, we don't have that stud QB or iron clad Oline. We have 2 solid run blockers on the right side and Ruckert who had a good game last week. What did we do with that? 2 carries to the right side all game (avg 6 yards per carry, btw), and Ruckert only playing 5 snaps.
Whats scary is these are our starters. Nobody has even gotten hurt yet. This is an epic fail that everyone, except our FO/CS, saw coming.
I disagree with McGovern at LG. He is a worse LG than he is a C by his own admission. I'm assuming that with Becton going to LT , AVT would move to RT. Schweitzer should get the shot at LG. He can't be worse than McGovern. Put McGovern at RG where he can do the least damage. Becton Schweitzer, Tippman, McGovern, AVT. It may even be worth trying Turner at RG.
what ya talking about bro, fans here were saying we are Super Bowl bound! In fact there’s a couple here still convinced
Hackett is questionable but this OL has been bad for most of the last 3 years. It's primarily JD's fault.
Sure but JD wasn't lining up empty backfields the whole game. Another game plan like that and I might have to agree with Sean Peyton.
