SO happy that I had a nice family occasion and could avoid experiencing this firsthand (just the occasional stop by the bar at the restaurant to curse). I really hate talking about people quitting and choking, since you never know what is actually in someone's head. While it is easy (and reasonable) to term this a collapse, the fact is that this has been a completely mediocre team for months, and didn't deserve to be in the postseason purely for that reason - all of the specific, painful stuff (not even winning 1 game out of 7 from Philadelphia in September, losing so many games to Florida and Washington, etc.) only makes it hurt more, but isn't really the problem. What is undoubtedly true is that Randolph has demonstrated right to the very end that he is incapable of correcting his many deficiencies, and should be fired immediately. Wilpon should tell Minaya that he has one year (at most) to right the ship, or he is gone (I'm willing to give him a mulligan on this year based on the previous two, but that's it). Reyes should be told that his long-term position with the Mets is far from secure, and he needs to get both his game and his attitude in shape. All the other obvious changes are obvious (Glavine, Lo Duca, Mota, etc.).
There is really nothing you can say about this. Stunning how this team got so cocky. With this kind of attitude, they don't deserve it.
If this isn't an indictment of the manager, I don't know what is. (Of course it is an indictment of the players too, but can you imagine players on a team with a good manager or coach having the unmitigated gall to say something like this?)
Who was that Mets fan here who said it was mindless for the Mets to resign Tom "The Bill Buckner of Pitchers" Glavine after the 2006 season? Does that guy still post here? I hope that poster doesn't go near any bridges or medicine cabinets tonight. Oh wait. That poster was me. Glavine is a piece of fuckin' shit.
I'm on par with that but just 3 weeks ago I thought it was the worst of my life. I had the team I was working for blow a 5-3 lead in the 7th (we were 37-4 when leading after the 6th). We then get shut out the next day. In the short season leagues it's a best of 3 so we were eliminated in 2 games by a team that finished under .500 while we wre 19 games over. I then had the Jets get absolutely killed by the Pats Then watch UNLV hang with Wisconisn only to lose in the last 2 minutes and I think the Mets got swept by the Phils.....
The article I got it from is 2 days old, but those quotes are from the New York Observer, but I don't know when they were said. Either way, it's stupid.
It couldn't be worse for me unless somebody on one of my teams actually died. WVU blew their national championship hopes. Right now they would be #3 with only LSU and USC ahead of them after Oklahoma and Florida lost. The Mets historic collapse. The Jets? Let's just say I wanted Kellen Clemens to remain the starter after the Baltimore game. I knew then and I know now they are going nowhere with Pennington. This is clearly my worst sports weekend ever and there is nothing even remotely close.
G.M.C. I feel bad for the good Mets fans out there in the world. The ones who don't boo and make fun of the Yankees every given chance. But I don't feel bad for those who would be poking fun at the Yankees if they were in the situation the Mets were in, because there is a very big amount of fans like that.
