IMO, the cut had ALOT to do with the youth movement and where the Jets want to go both on the field AND in the locker room. I personally feel that all fingers point to Hackenberg becoming the starting QB. With that being said, not only would the Jets have to surround Hack with talent but also clear out anyone in the locker room that could split the said locker room in half. Mangold had been seen numerous times, out and about with Bryce Petty. The two formed a strong relationship, thus making Mangold biased. Could Hack win over the locker room on his own? Maybe, as he posseses strong leadership traits, but why make it anymore difficult on the young QB. Of course this is pure speculation on my part.
Should the Jets release Marcus Gilchrist it will save $4.625 million against the cap. If the Jets trade Richardson it'll save another 8.069 million. Do the math that's $12.694 off the Jets cap should the Jets decide to part ways with Gilchrist and Richardson.
I don't mind cutting harris but he still has value. as the veteran captain of the defense (who else do we have for that role) a mentor for lee, we don't have a good replacement for harris, he is still performing well as a 2 down run stuffer, and he's a good locker room guy.
I see a lot of chatter about cutting Gilchrist [not a good player] with no replacement yet [As Hooker should be the Jets pick at 6]. Real smart guys. Way to put on your thinking cap!
Key word is potential. That will depend on whether Richardson brings the value Mac is looking for in a trade. We can't spend what we don't have.
i know but rumor is he'll be traded draft day. on top of that Harris is expendable so if they find someone they would rather have over harris they can cut him and sign the other player. we have options for sure if big mac wants to sign another player or 2
