The truth has been put out there. He skipped meetings in college or was late on a consistent basis, didn’t study film and then the combine interview process. Teams obvious concerned w the mental side w him and his maturity. I happen to love the pick but these are the concerns.
Here is an ex-coach from Florida talking about him, doesn't mention missing meetings though, does say he can be too honest for his own good. https://nypost.com/2019/05/08/jachai-polites-ex-coach-calms-concerns-on-jets-big-time-steal/ Here is a one seeming to show his bad honesty https://ftw.usatoday.com/2019/03/jachai-polite-combine-40-time-interviews “Responds well to constructive criticism” is not a box Polite checked off this weekend. And it gets worse from there: A reporter asked the Florida product on how he tried to improve the weaknesses he saw in his film during the lead-up to the draft. His response was, um, interesting… “I don’t really focus on — it’s just natural. That’s just how I play. I never really even watch myself that much to know that. That’s crazy.” Even if it is true that Polite isn’t a big fan of self-scouting, YOU DON’T ADMIT THAT DURING WHAT’S BASICALLY YOUR JOB INTERVIEW. Polite is a raw prospect who will need to develop more pass rush moves to make an impact in the league. If he’s not actively working to better himself, team’s will rightfully be concerned. This is a terrible look. An interesting article with quotes (if true) on his meeting with $9ers and Packers. https://clutchpoints.com/49ers-news...me-the-whole-time-during-nfl-combine-meeting/ I don't respond well to criticism either, I have never come across this "constructive criticism" much, it is like saying "I don't mean to be rude" then a whole load of rudeness follows on. Think I will take this 1st rounder in the 3rd and call it a bargain with major plusses for the Jets.
Polite is certainly a pick that will either makeup for some of Macs poor drafting or blow up in his (and everyone else’s) face.
"There are whispers, though, from executives with other teams about more baggage than just immaturity. But Polite is not a criminal. He did not fail any drug tests. He does not have a history of DUIs. The Jets are banking on him being able to grow with their support." Let me get this straight. Most great talent falls from the first round to the third round because they are criminals, failed a drug test or have a history of DUI's. I'm supposed to buy into this pick because he's a great kid who fell in the draft because he's a fat, retard?
Or he could just be immature. When I was 21 I was still a punk. He has said that he's made mistakes. I think he'll make us forget them. “I’m surrounded by great people, so I have no choice but to change and be great.” - Jachai Polite
Seems pretty obvious to me that Jets fans should be hoping for immaturity, not laziness. Some people grow up, some people never do. Definitely seems like a high risk/high reward decision, and those are the ones that either get you fired or get you a big raise.
When a quotation is posted, it is proper to identify the source, even if the quote is not bolded. It would be interesting to know the source for the anonymous "whispers," and why anyone believes such are worthwhile to post or even slightly appropriate.
Thanks. I wondered if there was more to the story than just the Combine results, the bad interviews and then his comments. I sure hope that he has learned his lesson.
Thanks for what? Is Turk now recognized as a viable inside source? Or do unsubstantiated rumors actually become fact if repeated often enough?
I’ve been searching for anything that suggests Polite missed any meetings or was constantly late during college and nada, not a thing shows up. On the contrary there are tons of articles with quotes from former coaches praising his work ethic and his play on the field. All there is on Polite is him being unprepared for draft season and all I can think about that is thank you, who freaking cares.
