    Yeah about Polite

I’m soo confused. There is nothing I can see that makes him such a bad person, but clearly something is up.

He even said something like he’s around great players and he wants to become great and become a better person or something like that (can’t find quote)

I’m stumped as to what he did. You’d think he was Maurice Clarett or something.

Who cares about a bad combine? Maybe he’s just young and got bad advice. I don’t see any assaults or major crimes. Did we get a steal?

    Confused jet fan

he was a big fish in a small pond in college , now he has to realize he is a small fish in a big pond. a fresh start is what Gase is preaching to his players....a good approach to kick off the new regime.

Well, I don't think there's any doubt he bombed the combine interview process spectacularly. That was well documented at the time. And then he was out of shape for his pro day and underperformed there too. I would not personally have a problem with anyone saying this indicated immaturity. During the combine interviews he has said that he reacted badly to the tone of the questions and didn't like being criticised. I have no issue with this being used as evidence of an attitude problem either. I can see why he fell.

Of course, since that point he has admitted he made mistakes, given reasons and circumstances behind those occurrences. It might be taken as whinging by some but the ownership of errors shows maturity and at least that he has the right attitude to learning from his mistakes to me. And, as you and others have demonstrated, there is little or no evidence of attitude or maturity issues pre-combine.

Overall there are concerns, but nowhere near enough to say he's going to be a problem and if he learns from his experience he might end up being the biggest steal the Jets have picked up in a long while.

Hopefully he doesn't shoot himself in the leg. I mean foot. Agree with MoWilk, he's owning it, which is a positive baby step. I watched the combine interview video. It was painful to say the least. Hopefully he won't even be given the chance to get out of line now that he's in the pros. Which brings me to . . .

Not for nothing, but whatever happened to benching someone for being a jackass? It boggles my mind what Odell Beckham, Jr. was allowed to get away with with the Giants. They were partially responsible for creating that monster, regardless of how talented he is. He was running amok with no consequences. I'd like to hope that between Crazy Eyed Killer and Greg Williams that that will never happen here.

I wonder how much, to put it politely, "bias" has played into Jachai's fall from grace.

I mean it's not like he grabbed his dick on the field or ran from the cops.

Polite seems contrite. If he proves to be the answer to our edge rusher need, then the whispers quiet.
If he has problems adapting to life as a pro, he'll get ripped by the media & the fans.

Like I said earlier, my concern is how he responds to Greg Williams coaching.
Time to put childish things aside and snack some quarterbacks.

The upcoming season has so many interesting story lines...

I think that you are spot on with your assessment of Gase's rookie orientation.

I am a Brooklyn Nets fan and we're having a ton of our success with our younger player's and a lot of it has to do with the support infrastructure that they are putting in place.

These young athletes come into pro sports having been coddled their entire careers. Generally speaking they've been able to dominate their competition easily. Then at the drop of a dime we expect them to mature overnight and handle adversity like a mature adult?

Yeah the rest of the population has to do this and does (with varying results). But this youngsters are million dollar commodities - why not invest in their maturity? To me it's a "get of my lawn" attitude to throw them in the deep end to let them sink or swim when there are other paths available.

Give this kid all the support he needs - because it sounds like he really needs a lot!

I wholeheartedly agree. I have always thought it dumb to pay a kid millions of dollars, and then just take a "sink or swim" attitude, and don't try to do anything to help a kid learn, grow and succeed. Some coaches are just ignorant, lazy, old-fashioned, or may understand Xs and Os, but not human nature.

How much orientation does a rookie need? Most teams seem to give them a few hours but don't drastically cut allowable time on the field. I'd have no problem at all with half of each day just running some basic drills as an opportunity to begin to develop some chemistry among the guys and a half day of Camp Kumbaya.

honestly a victim of NFL teams going overboard. he bombed interviews somehow and then went to the media about it which pissed off teams. outside of that a bad hammy gave him a bad combine. honestly he's the steal of the draft in my eyes

alot if u read why gase does this. it basically is a crash course on how to be an adult and take care of yourself and how to behave and deal with the newly found money and fame and responsibilities. basically most of these players skated through high school and college on their talent and everyone doing everything for them and getting special treatment. now they have to be adults in the real world

Okay, I'll concede a half hour for proper use of social media to include capitalization and using complete words.

dude it's not that. they are trying to teach these kids what their parents, society, and schools failed to do. most had 0 guidance, never paid a bill or handled money, never did laundry, never balanced a checkbook etc now they are all of a sudden millionaires on TV. come on and be resonable for a minute. if your idea of parenting takes 30 mins i feel bad for your kids if you have any.

I think we will see more teams doing this in the future instead of the traditional minicamp
