Thats nonsense. If he was throwing interceptions left and right you would be talking about how awful he looks and how terrible of a season he is poised to have. The preseason does matter. Players are trying to make teams. Others are earning starting jobs. Watch all the fighting after the whistle against Cinci and tell me that the players arent trying. Geno has looked better in the preseason than he did last year for sure. Does that mean he is going to be great this year. Obviously not. Its still a step in the right direction.
I kind of agree success wise. But if Geno was really struggling, still staring down receivers, not feeling pressure, I would be really worried. It's probably unfair for me to view the preseason that way for players, but I view Hill, Wilson, others the same. The struggles in the preseason are worrisome and while successes are nice, they don't mean signal much to me except that the person isn't going to lose the job. Does that make sense?
Yea but its hard to tell how hard guys are trying,Was Wilson giving it his all on that play?Rex also calls diffrent plays in regular season then we will see in preseason,Guys don't want to get injured for no reason and I don't want them to either .If the preseason was serious starters would play the entire game not a few snaps
Have you ever played football or basketball with your friends in the back yard? It doesn't mean anything, but you still try your hardest to win, don't you? True winners are going to play their best all the time. Yeah, it may not matter who wins the game, but when the starters are in (if they're true winners) are going to try their best even if it is preseason. I'd be willing to bet that Manning treats every snap in preseason like a real game. The ones who don't try just because it is preseason are the ones who are playing only for the money and not because they love to play.
Hmm I guess so. I think, like I said this is flawed, if someone has a history of playing well and they have a rough preseason, I will look at it from your view. If someone has a history of struggles and is playing the same role they would in the regular season and still struggles, I will judge them more harshly. Unfair yes, but I think it logically makes sense
I also worry about the philosophy of a Rex run team for the development of a QB. The philosophy seems it is of the mindset of don't make mistakes instead of make a play. If a QB is afraid to throw a pick will they ever take a chance throwing into tight windows that great Qbs do? As i keep saying I guess we will find out.
Yeah I don't want the QB worrying about turnovers. It happens, just as long as he's for the most part consistent.
geno did throw guys open a few times last year ... there was one in the first new england game where he was hit hard as soon as he released the ball and santonio had yet to break his route. tone ran a deep out and the ball was on time and on target throwing guys open takes timing and trust, two things that geno did not have with his revolving lazy susan of a receiving corps last year
I only really remember 2 instances. That throw and the Cumberland TD pass against the Falcons. That's still a rare occurrence in 16 games.
Haha, found this thread from preseason last year. Lot of the same optimism I'm hearing now about how Geno was coming along. I'm not happy about the injury but I can't forget how Geno has played the last couple seasons. Fitz may be an 8 win QB I get it but just last year Geno was a 4 win QB.
When I saw the thread title I didn't realize it was an old thread, figured we would see some of these impressions
