The best thing the Jets could do is throw the ball deep and often against the Giants. Some people here say Pennington's arm strength has improved. Well, this is a game where he needs to prove it. The thing is you can't take the time to be mental about it. You have to know who should be open off the defensive read and just air it out. I'de rather go 3 and out on 3 bombs then run, run, dink and punt.
Not to mention the Jets are masters of the draw play... With the Giants attacking upfield blitzing defense, I see the Jets running plenty of draws with Leon and TJ in this game... I'd assume it'd be a call Chad makes at the line if he sees blitz coming.... COuld probably burn that D for some good yardage
The Giants will be waiting for everything the Jets try and trow at them. With the threat of not getting beat for a long play they will stack the line and send the house at Chad.
I think the Jets are more likely to return a punt for a TD than have a single pass play for more than 25 yards.
blah blah blah our pass protection isnt that bad. get ready for alot of int's and long boring drives that die in the red zone is more like it. clemens would make a difference, for better or worse i cannot say but the whole o line scapegoat is old now since theyre horrible at run blocking and good enough at pass blocking for a capable qb to hit targets.
Chad will play like he plays against every team with a strong pass rush. Although I think the left side of the OLine is playing pretty good the last couple of games, the right side scares me. It probably scares Chad too. Chad "deer in the headlights" Pennington will look lost, get happy feet, and hold the ball too long. If the offense scores at all, it will be a long run by one of our playmakers. On defense, they will run it down our throats, and there will be nothing we can do about it. Jacobs is allot bigger than all of our LBs and almost as big as our NT. If they throw 10 passes the entire game, it will be allot. It's going to be a long day.... I hope no one gets seriously hurt.
No, but a blitz-happy team might be forced to stay at home after getting gashed some. That is the desired effect. If they don't, you don't need a great line to run block. the numbers will be there.
It wouldn't surprise me one bit to see Chad step up this week. Especially playing against the other NY Metro Area Team with a Qb who has a better arm. Pennington knows everyone's opinion of his arm strength. He's not living in a bubble as some would suggest Pro Athletes do. He just might surprise some folks with a 15yd out pattern or even a strike deep over the middle. He's capable of doing this every now and then. I've lived long enough to have seen it a few times. What worries me even more than Chad's limitations is our Dline giving Eli all day to find Burress, Shockey and the rest of the Giant Wr's. It won't matter that Chad can't throw a football thru a cheesecake if the Jints keep the ball 35-40 minutes during the game. The best senario? Shotts calls the longer plays and puts Chad on the spot to make the required throws. It would surprise the Jints and perhaps rekindle some confidence in the Offensive Unit. If Chad can't get it done, time to sit him. This really doesn't have to be so damn complicated. Either Chad can make the longer throws or he can't. If he can, he plays. If he can't, he doesn't....
I often wonder if any Jets look at this board. If they did they would probably hate the fans because we will shit on any of them. I hope Chad does have a great game.
So do I WSW. However, its time we find out exactly what Chad can or can't do. Either he makes the longer throws, or he sits. This DDP bullshit is not only a lousy gameplan, its simply not enough to win in the NFL in '07. I wonder if we're witnessing the end of the legendary WCO.
For the record I'm all for moving on to Clemens, and really can't stand seeing Penny as our QB anymore. If he's going to be our starter though, I hope he does a good job. I wish he would just say F it and start playing like he had nothing to lose. I think he'd do a lot better if he did.
