Great write up! I am, obviously, on board with Ryan as well. I believe he already has earned that extension for at least another 4 or 5 years. I, personally, don't believe this year should matter. Quite honestly, the team is basically set up to fail, on offense anyway, so this should not be held against him. Of course, I think I'm in the minority on this.

Well, he hit one thing on the nose in this piece - Rex Ryan is indeed a clown. An NFL head coach? Not so much.

Ryan landing an extension, along with some positive play from smith, would set this team up to be perennial contenders.
It is the main thing I'm pulling for from this season

    More delirious than 'serious'

Why bother answering a senseless, inane question like that?

When Bill Walsh inherited the 49'ers in 1979 he went 2-14 and 6-10 his 1st 2 years in the league. Magically, his third year
he took the team to a 13-3 record and the Superbowl champions. How did that come about?

You need to educate yourself on the ups and downs of a team and what a head coach goes thru - year to year to answer your own questions.

the thing that bothers me the post is that i seriously believe woody and idzik will back rex and want to keep him in NY as long as possible, but the media will drive him out of town. it's insane how much influence they have on the general perception of this team

i have a dream that one day i'll go on espn and tell all those analysts that they have no idea what they're talking about when it comes to the jets

Trevor Pryce was quoted as saying 'He was pulling Madden shit' during the playoff installation [this interview was after Jets win.]
Brady never looked more puzzled that day.

That's not enough for you, eh?

    --------------------------------------------------

I also don't get this favoritism remark. Herm Edwards showed that, when he had Chad, Coles and Cotchery all riding the pine. Rex? Are you fucking out of your mind? Who did he choose in favor of whom? Can you make the same case?

    --------------------------------------------------

And Ryan now lacks leadership quality, eh? Brilliant. Just brilliant. So you play that hard for a crowd follower? Again, absolutely brilliant logic right there. Have you EVER been to any team sports environment yourself?

    --------------------------------------------------

Other than game managing [which is more of an offensive function] I just don't see how you didn't talk all these bullshit out of your ass.

[Also, I know, this jackass is a stubborn one too - even when he cannot present a solid fact to state otherwise [i.e. his bullshit has been certifiably debunked] he WILL spew out the SAME bullshit over and over again till thy kingdom come - you know, like a broken record. Education doesn't belong to his brain.]

Assuming the Jets keep it together this year and don't collapse down the stretch I'd go for a long-term Rex Ryan, Head Coach and Marty Mornhinweg, Offensive Coordinator and co-Head Coach arrangement. That'd keep teams from poaching Marty away when the Jets got good.

I agree with this. Also, with all of the stuff that the media makes up, are we really to believe that Rex and Idzik aren't seeing eye to eye. Who is to say that Idzik did not decide to keep Ryan around because he saw that he was a good coach. Just because the media wants Rex to get fired does not mean that it will happen. Woody Johnson makes those decisions not Manish Mehta and Gary Myers.

Top 7 or better defense every year says his game planning is just fine. It's our offensive execution that has sucked, not the game planning itself. Again, 2009 & 2010, I doubt we win any playoff games at all without Rex's game planning to carry that weak ass QB. We're talking about the guy that beat Manning & Brady back to back on the road. That requires a bit of game planning, I'm sorry.

Adjustments? So you are honestly telling me it's not up to the OC to make offensive adjustments and the DC to make defensive adjustments? All of the comeback wins in 2010 and other years show in game adjustments that worked. The Steelers AFC title game is a perfect example. They got dominated in the first half, but turned it around and dominated the Steelers in the second half minus one poor goal line sequence that could have put them over the hump. If they convert that, they very likely end up fighting it out in OT.

Game management has not posed many issues. He usually challenges at the right times, there has only been a few select instances where time was mismanaged, and it's usually been on Sanchez or Schotty in those circumstances. His decisions to go for it on 4th are usually right.

Accountability has to be the biggest joke of all. What on earth makes you think Rex doesn't hold his guys accountable? He benched Sanchez TWICE. How do you explain the big improvement in penalties from 2011 to 2012? Yeah, he never holds guys accountable, he just lets them do whatever he wants!! LOLZ

Favoritism? I'll just say prove it. OMG A rookie who has trouble grasping the system didn't start fresh out of college over a proven vet!! It must be favoritism! Sorry but that view is only supported by blowhards and whiners. The whole favoritism joke is nothing more than speculation, like most Rex hate.

Leadership? LT was quoted as saying that Rex Ryan is a great motivator and makes you want to run through a brick wall for him. What is wrong with his leadership?

Jeti, your posts have seriously regressed worse than Sanchez last season. You used to be somewhat fair and balanced, now you just bitch and whine about speculative things, listing generalities and media catch phrases rather than specific examples. Sometimes I think the media's goal is to put negativity into the thoughts of the collective so that it will somehow negatively affect the team. It really makes me wonder why people are so hellbent on attacking and attacking. Football is a game. It's entertainment. If you aren't entertained and seriously get so mad about it that you resort to slander and constant moaning about the team, football probably is not for you.

NOW GET HYPED FOR THE SEASON!! NO MORE PUSSYFOOTING! WE'RE LESS THAN A WEEK AWAY! LET'S GET PUMPED!

You guys are really missing the point

Rex has a lot of work to do in becoming a great HC

I'm not even worried about defensively that's a positive

But there are things he must become better at and I listed them

You can't take single moments or games and make that case

Facts are he went to back to back AFCCG but the Jets have been in reverse since then

Funny thing, I think the Jets have the best all around coaching staff they have had in YEARS, and it could very well be taken apart next year.

    1999: Parcells, Weis, Belichik
    2000: Groh, Henning, Nolan
    2001: Edwards, Hackett, Cottrell

That was like, bang, zoom, everything changed. And the Jets still made the playoffs 3 of the next 4 years.

Good writeup on the Jets situation. I agree that letting Rex go would just be creating another problem and not really solving any. Of course things can happen this season that would change my opinion, but I overall do think the problems of the last two years fall more squarely on the GM than Rex. Others disagree with me, and I understand some reasons behind it, but when I look how the team was built I see it more of the GM than the coach. (Many argue the GM was influenced that way by the owner, that's a whole different topic)

Rex's confidence is gone because when you talk the talk you better be able to walk the walk. It never occurred to him that the talent was going to dry up and the walk was going to get tripped up like that.

Now he knows and now he can concentrate on making the contributions that will get the Jets to the goal. Maybe even start talking a lot again if the talent takes the Jets that direction.

And the media that doing everything they can to run him out of town will start singing "typical Jets, let go of a great coach" tune.
