    Could've done better with picking Offensive playmakers. Devin Smith will be a solid addition but Tevin Coleman would've also looked good here.

    of course he took a paycut, he wasnt worth 1/4 of what he was being paid and isnt an every down player. with less and less running on early downs, his role becomes less and less important. we should have went in another direction, and brought in someone who wasnt such a poor limited player... and paid half the price

    there is honestly no defensing that contract. he is insanely overpaid

    McDougle is a poor example - he got hurt before he ever had a chance to take the field.

    Shula was despised by many of his players and he didn't kiss up to any of them. He just pushed them a lot harder. Now years later the players who hated Shula say he was a great coach. You don't see any of Rex's ex Jets players wanting to go so badly to Buffalo. First: who wants to go there. Second: they know he's a loser.

    Tevin Coleman would have been redundant, and we would have spent a way higher pick than the 7th we spent on Stacy. If we didn't end up with Gurley or Gordon I wanted a speed guy who can catch passes. Johnson or Langford would have been just that.

    He isn't redundant though. He's much more an every down RB than anyone we have on the roster and brings the big play home run threat with his speed. Johnson and Langford were two other options I'd consider too. The point is we needed another dynamic playmaker on O and didn't address that.

    I disagree. If the Jets didn't have so many needs and had been able to draft Kendricks or Benardrick McKinney, I think the tackles would still be there, and quite possibly even more, because Harris is so slow that there are a lot of plays he can't get to.

    He's slow and he can't cover. But that's not his main job on D.

    I wasn't even talking about coverage, but now that you mention it... There are a lot of running plays that he can't get to, either. I want him on the bench next season if at all possible, and an ILB with sideline-to-sideline speed how can cover.

    or we could have signed a free agent ILB for half the price to replace those tackles

    I believe the Harris deal was fair.

    He's been a durable, sure tackler. Has he ever missed a start?

    I'm pretty sure he is well respected in the locker room as well. That's important in a team that's gone through it's share of front office turmoil.

    Isn't Harris's contract kind of out of character for Mac? That one has Woody's fingerprints all over it. He didn't want him going to Buffalo, and he likes him. So he told the GM to keep him.

    Not the end of the world with the salary cap shape they were in, but I don't think that was the GM's call.

    Spikes still hasn't been signed. More than Harris, probably not but taking a hit on performance for a discount worthn it

    There's nothing wrong with retaining a solid player.

    If that was Woody's call, then kudos to him.

    Ok - here's my two cents.

    =====================================

    1. You cannot fix the entire mess in one off-season. Jets' problem wasn't born overnight, and it won't be solved overnight.

    2. That said, Look what this FO actually did with the picks. They addressed a lot of needs with an emphatic "SLAM DUNK!"

    This includes:

    DL - for possible contract leverage for Wilkerson [or to trade him if the price is right.]
    WR - Brandon Marshall AND Devin Smith in one off-season. That's almost criminal. Okay?
    Future prospects: QB and OLB, two premier positions, and Jets got two really good prospects that they can grow. This shouldn't be underestimated.

    =====================================

    I am inclined to think that, Mac will address the OL and CB next year. My impression of Maccagnan is, he's more of a pro-active thinker than any of the GMs Jets had as of late. [Terry Bradway - UGH. T-Bomb - bombs away!, Idzik - die in a fire, fuckhead.]

    The draft sure shut up numerous Idzik ball-lickers.

    Don't know if you were speaking to me or not, but I'll answer. There weren't a lot of veterans that were worth much at ILB this offseason. Someone else mentioned Spikes, and I would have brought him in. Since it was going to be a rebuilding year anyway, I might have signed Mason Foster. He's not as good as Harris, but would have been a lot cheaper, which would then have made more money available to sign another FA.

    I don't hate the deal. Harris has been a good player for the Jets and a solid citizen. He's done the best he could. I think he is well liked and possibly a team leader, so from those perspectives it's good to keep him and hopefully he will now retire a Jet. He can't help it that he wasn't blessed with foot speed. I just think that we can do better at ILB. It's been a weakness for us for years and we need an ILB who can cover RBs and TEs as well as who can get to more plays than Harris can. I never would have given him the big previous contract.
