i was there, all day, in person and i got a dozen autographs between the morning and afternoon practices. i even told wallace wright that he was our stretch-the-field guy and he replied ' i'm trying , man' .
Are you saying this because it's far from your home or because you didn't think Cortland did a good job?
1). It's far from where the vast majority of Jets' fans live 2). The crowd is just not the same as it was in Hempstead. The only time I heard the J-E-T-S chant was on the first day and it was done by someone I had seen in previous years at Hofstra. 3). That town is a shithole...
I went to camp today with my wife and this was the first time I've really been back since I graduated in 02' so I showed her around the town. I told her that I didn't remember the town being such a shit hole. But I agree. Now that I'm a homeowner and take pride in taking care of what's mine, I now realize that Cortland is one of the shittiest towns I've been in. I still love the college though.
1). many men that look like typical alcoholics 2). the amount of people who smoke (percentage wise of course) is astounding 3). as I already said in this thread, my very first impression was that people in Cortland either a). get tattoos (parlors on practically every corner in "downtown") or b). mow their lawns (I guess that's the only thing to do there in free time) 4). way too many houses whose owners obviously don't give a crap about their appearance this list can go on... P.S. The stadium though is really nice with plenty of seating for fans.
hmmm...great location choice by Rex Ryan. If the place looks like what you described in your post, Petro....the players won't be apt to going out on the town.....and will focus more on their tasks at hand.
nonsense! first, the bills in buffalo are history as soon as wilson checks out and a new owner buys that team. the team is preparing to re-capture fans upstate. the jets were upstate's team until the 1970 merger forced bills telecasts on us. second, having camp there gets the players to concentrate on football. third, cortland is no worse than queens. at least the food and lodging there are not over-priced like in the nyc metro area. last, not every jets fan is from nyc area. the team will have early camp upstate, then at the new facility, with a couple of sessions at hofstra also. a smart business decision by the team.:metal:
Cortland is definitely a shithole. From a business standpoint, it is not the greatest decision to have the camp there. Hempstead provided a steady flow of fans, which means merchandise sales and advertising. Cortland can not offer that. From a team standpoint, it probably makes sense. Let the team bond and have the players focused during camp. Being so close to NYC can be a major distraction for some players.
I was at yesterday afternoons practice, which was special teams, and it ended early. Not a whole lot to report. Hodges is a decent punter, Leon is fucking fast, and Jets gear costs a lot of money  All we saw was punting drills, including a couple fakes from Brad Smith. Hodges will have to do, I guess, but this is a position that I believe to be a pretty important one, and it could be improved. Leon took one to the house, and Jim Leonhard was shagging punts as well. We will be at this mornings practice as well, and I'll give whatever updates I can when I return home. If anyone sees me gimping around in a Mangold jersey with my cane and my 2 daughters, say hi. Also, I love TC at Cortland. Sorry Petro. The town is indeed a very blue collar town, but that is actually pretty representative of Western NY. There is no white collar work around the Cortland area that I know of. Buffalo is the same type of blue collar area, and Syracuse is as well, even having the college. Rochester is probably the most technical, white collar town of them all. The smaller towns in this area are all like Cortland, though. It's a great thing for the area, having TC here. There are fans spending money in a town that really needs the infusion of cash. If you are planning on coming from out of town, stay at the Country Inn and Suites. The stadium is right across the street from here.
Petro, that pic of Woody is creepy. He looks like he should be in a row boat in the Carribean fishing for Marlin.
Somebody ping the Cortland Chamber of Commerce! How many times can "shithole" and a name of a city appear on one page? Cortland sounds like white trash heaven.
dude, i left at 6:30 Saturday morning and i was there by 8:30. total cost of tolls and parking $14. i got a farve jersey for $19, and ate lunch in cortland for under $10. i hope the team returns again next year. outside of moving camp to rochester, it's the next best thing.
and the hot Cortland college girls arrive the minute the team leaves to come home for preseason games... that has to hurt. I visited Cortland when I was picking schools - there is some nice talent there.
The problem with going to Cortland is that it takes 4 hours from the city. Last year my brother and I left at 6am, got there at 10, which was just in time for morning practice. Hung around the boring town for a few hours and caught afternoon practice, then headed home. A full 20 hour day. Was exhausting.
