If we were smart, we take a DE since our D sometimes doesnt know the meaning of applying pressure on QB's and let them relax in the pocket.

Would be nice if we can get a John Abraham II, only without the greed, attitude, and injuries.

Sort of tough to do when you just began your season today, and when you had to work with 2nd and 3rd stringers on the O-Line last season when starting....

Barlow has gradually gotten better. I would give it a few games, before jumping to take away his time. And in that time, just like today, the other guys will get their share of snaps. But right now, I'd stick with Barlow as the main go to guy.

Um, Mangini a slow learner? Pardon my french, but no. Just no. He adjusts better than most coaches mid-game that I've seen. After Washington's electric run after his reception, Mangini plugged him in at rb for most of the next few series. Would never have happened under Herm.

Cedric had two carries that were five yards each... how many other running backs on the Jets have had more than 2 five yard carries so far?

Sean Ryan made some good blocks when he was fullback, which cleared the road for cedric

    Totally agree.

Hey...lets not forget what made Houston last year...running behind a very soft offensive line.

Somehow, he put up numbers...hes a north south guy and doesnt play games when he gets it.

He hits the whole fast and as long as this offensive line will not let a running back have any choices..hes the guy.

Bottom line is he is a positive yardage guy...was last year too. Will he bust 80 yarders? Probably not..but he will give you positive yardage...and with the way the offense has somehow been able to move the ball without that...Cedric Houston will be slamming the line of the Colts much more next week..guaranteed.

Anyone else think it was risky to put Houston in cold off of the bench to handle the ball with so much on the line? Either way, he was a difference maker today.

Barlow's longs in each game so far:
    Tenn: 11 yards
    NE: 8 yards
    Buff: 8 yards

    Guess that answers that question.

Houston is not that good. He impressed in garbage time last year. And he honestly wasn't all that impressive. If he was so fantastic last year in the time he played, then Bollinger played like a Pro Bowler.

Barlow is the type of guy we need. Someone who is not afraid to go right up the gut into traffic, and grind out 2 or 3 yards. We're a passing offense. The RB is only there to support the passing attack. Barlow fits the role nicely. Washington has shown that he is a good catching weapon. Houston has proven he is over his thyroid problem, nothing more.

I think Houston should definitely see more time. But I really think some of you are overrating him. Hes got decent speed, hits the hole, and can usually gain 1-2 yards before going down.

Thats good, which is why he needs more time. BUT, that game yesterday was no indication or proof of his "potential" to be carry the load.

Those plays when Houston was in was the only time I saw real running lanes. And those carries were close to the endzone, which when your carrying the ball your going to run harder naturally with 6 points staring you in the face. So its not like he can just plow people over at will. Hes really not a power runner. Just someone who follows their blocks and will always fall forward.

Which, like I said Blaylock should be an afterthought and Houston should get some more time.

But some of you sound like you think he can be the franchise back. Which is perfectly fine. I dont buy it, but we wont find out until he gets his fair share of carries.

This is probably the best assessment so far. Perhaps Houston has more talent than I am willing to give him credit for. Perhaps he has less talent than many others are giving to him. We don?t know. I think the only two things we can all honestly agree on are 1) Blaylock has proven to be a total waste and 2) a tandem of Houston/Barlow/Washington can?t be any worse than what we have seen so far this year.

I don't think the CS had a choice. It looked like Barlow took himself out of the game due to a some sort of injury issue.

ya i agree, cedric is our best option now, but barlow needs to get in everyone few downs just for a little change of pace, but ya i love cedric, and i am still wishing that Jets wouldnt have let LaMant go, i miss him and his career is going down the hill in Oakland

I agree. I always feel good about it when he gets the ball.

I called for this guy to start last April, I have not changed my mind, get him in the game and use Leon as a change of pace.

Maybe. But Blaylock ignored such blocking. In the Tennessee game, Mangold pushed his guy all the way into the end zone...much as he did for Houston...and did Blaylock follow him for the TD? No, he ran at the hole and the cut into the backs of his blockers and fell down...like he's done over and over.

I have no problem with Barlow getting the bulk of the carries. I just would like to see Houston put into the rotation. And Washington offers more as a 3rd down back than Blaylock.

I think Blaylock needs more...a LOT more...time with his family, personally.
