Cmon Jil... You've been around here long enough to know better... There's a shot of Maker's Mark for ya when you come back down off the ledge pardner...
I have learned to only watch pre-season games with one eye shut. That way it only hurts half as much. J/K, not worried at all.
It's ridiculously early, but, still for all of the huge moves the Jets made to shore up their defense it's a bit discouraging to see how flat they looked on Thursday. Bowles is a defensive guru he surprised the league with Arizona last season. I think the Jets will be fine.
Jets defense is old, slow and can't tackle. Defense will be middle of the pack this year and the offense will again be bottom 5. Not a great recipe for success.
If that's the case, then why did almost every team struggle with tackling last year following the CBA agreement? Why are teams struggling with it again this year? With 2-a-days, there was plenty of live hitting in pads, and time to work on blocking and tackling. When you're limited to one practice a day, and I don't think you can tackle more than a few times a week, those fundamental skills are going to get sloppy with many players, especially rookies and those who are perhaps less physical, have poorer technique, who go for the big hits, or are less talented. Bowles has said the team will focus on it this week. There's an open practice this afternoon. I imagine that reports from today's practice will say that they worked on tackling a lot. If it's still a problem after next week's game, then there may be some reason for concern, but for now, it's a non-issue imo.
Great? They gave up 25 points and lost. The Jets gave up what, 27? Not much difference on the scoreboard, and that's the only thing that counts.
I probably picked moderately concerned but ONLY cause of the other nonsense that's been going on (Sheldon, Geno/IK) and not as much cause of the first preseason game, though an eyebrow was raised with the bad tackling. And it's obvious Petty is not ready and shouldn't be anywhere near the field, the delusions of him being Russel Wilson should end for at least this year.
Don't jump, jilozzo. It's still early. If things look this bad in another month or two, I may join you on the ledge.
The first team defense was stout and attacking....Newton didn't do anything until the backup d-line played Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
