this thread is a waste. the dude's a rookie, playing one of the most difficult positions on the field, going against pro bowl players. Im not sure what exactly are your expectations.
Believe me, we all have that question. But this kid doesn't feel like answering it so we are left to wonder.
If you could be so kind to enlighten me, what is the main reason Chad has had enough time to 1. scan the field 2. go through the progression and 3. make the throw?
D'Brickashaw Ferguson Position: T Height: 6-6 Weight: 312 # 71 Walter Jones Position: T Height: 6-5 Weight: 308 I didn't read through the thread, but Jones is considered one of the elite LT in the game. Ferguson may not be 312 right now, but he's a young dude. A few more years of working out and getting used to the NFL and he'll keep the weight up. I'm more than fine with this pick.
Like I explained. Chad has time in clear strong running situations and usually with the help of a play action. In the first half today, Chad maybe had 2 or 3 5 step drops. The plays he made agaisnt NE and IND he was scrambling under Dbricks man to throw. I'll reiterate. I don't expect him to dominate or even win these matchups. But for a guy that provides us no run blocking at all, I expeect him to lock up the DE every once in a while. In revieing the film he simply does not.
For the last time, because you are avoiding the question, What did you expect against Freeney, Taylor, and Seymour?
"I'll reiterate. I don't expect him to dominate or even win these matchups. But for a guy that provides us no run blocking at all, I expeect him to lock up the DE every once in a while. In reviewing the film he simply does not." I guess this is his answer. He expects a rookie LT to "lock up" the top-flight DEs. (To benyitz3: If he can accomplish that, he is bound to Pro-bowl, no? Look at the whole NFL, and see how many actually is capable of doing what you are describing.)
Exactly, good post. If you told many LT's beforehand that they would only give up a total of two sacks between the three they would have trouble believing you. Unless you are a top flight tackle it is impossible to shut those guys down. Although D'Brick hasn't shut them down, he has contained them very well.
Since when does Cinci and and San Diego have great DEs? SD has a good pass rushing OLB in Shawn Merriman and a blitzing scheme, but thats it. I dont know what the hell youre talking about with Cinci. And dont dare bring up Justin Smith, that man has had 1 good game in his career and that accounted for 3 of his sacks this year. That man is a draft bust.
Actually, San Diego does have a great DE. Or at least a burgeoning one. Luis Castillo is going to be All-Pro sometime within the next few years, if not this season. Castillo usually plays left end so he wouldn't be going up against Ferguson, however.
OK, I'll provide one, heck two. Watch the Houston TD run from the 5 in the 4th q. of the Buffalo game. On that play you can see D'Brick drive his guy (#98) into the EZ. http://youtube.com/watch?v=cItNoqsNcP0 You can also see D'Brick stand his guy up on the Baker TD. Satisified? TBTF
Castillo isnt a great DE. Potential and actually delivering are 2 different things. The kid got a motor and hustles, but hes always gonna suffer because hes a 3-4 defensive end. If he was a DT in the 4-3, the kid would be a savage.
Lets see, a bust after 6 games. 3 of those games against all-pros and maybe a future HOFer in there somewhere. You gotta know how Brick is. He is a student of the game and relies a lot on technique. Lets see how he does when he goes thru the division for the 2nd time. He's also had bums at LG next to him so that part of the line is a liability. Bottomline - Brick is a franchise LT. By the end of the year he will be dominating. In fact, these next 2 games could be breakout games for him.
Great point. We keep saying that we need to get a big NT to accomadate Vilma. Well, in order to accomadate D'Brick we need a big LG
Chad is still standing... Brick appears to be doing a decent job out there. He rarely dominates his opponent, but hopefully he'll continue to improve. I don't think you can accurately assess this draft pick yet. Give it some time. The one thing I do worry about it Brick's ability to put on weight. He's not a natural fatass. When he came into the combine weighing 315 or whatever, that was totally artificial. That was temporary weight that ended up just falling right off. He's going to continue to have this problem. I expect him to hover around 300 for his entire career. Hey, how bout those 3rd round picks?! Such a waste! There were so many better players available... man I was upset when they picked Schlegel and E. Smith, and I'm even more upset about it now. Oh well.
He's NOT putting on more weight. He's a tall, 'skinny' 300-pounder, not a huge hulk at 340 pounds or so. Look, if he could put on 35 pounds and keep 95% of his speed, it'd be a good tradeoff. But that's not likely. He's an outstanding pass-blocker (or will be) and is going to be AT BEST AVERAGE on the run. Maybe he'll be a smart, cerebral guy who makes up for a lack of bulk down the line and can improve. I won't diss this pick....I thought we needed to move up from the Mangold pick to get Ngata for the DL.
