I'm still tentative...I mean, how can I not be? The last time the Jets traded way up into the first round, they drafted Dewayne Robertson and we all know how that turned out. I like Sanchez. He looked real excited, is saying all the right things, and looks like he will really fit in here in New York. However, I'm not sold on his ability. One of the things that worries me is that he is going to start this year. QBs who leave before their senior season tend to struggle in the NFL and QBs who are thrown into the fire their rookie year also tend to struggle. I know everyone wants to compare him to Matt Ryan or Joe Flacco. As for Matt Ryan, he was a higher rated prospect and was leaving BC after his senior season. Flacco, on the other hand, hasn't really convinced me. He played on a team with a great running game and a dominant D. He didn't really throw the ball much. Now, I know we are supposedly modeling our team on the Ravens, but we can only hope we have a top 3 D. If that's the case, why bother trading away everything for a franchise QB. You don't really need that. You just need a game manager. Game managers aren't drafted fifth (especially when you give up 3 players, a 1st round pick, and a 2nd round pick). I would love it if he turned into an all-pro QB. I'm just not getting my hopes up...it's the Jets.
That can't make you worry about this pick. Bradway isn't running the draft and Sanchez is not a workout warrior. Plus he hasn't said anything remotely sounding like "Can't nobody block me" I completely agree with you. I'd like him to sit at the very least 11 weeks and have 2010 be his 1st full season. I think him starting right away could ruin him. its the best of both worlds... why have just a game manager, not capable of making the 4th quarter comeback or the clutch play? now the jets possibly have that much more. Game managers rarely win SBs. I'll take the highter odds with the franchise QB. I think Ryan understood that even with the top defense he had in Baltimore, he couldn't win it with mediocrity behind center. we need to change this kind of thinking. The culture of losing needs to go away.
