The defense is good enough to go to the AFC Championship game all by itself. All the offense has to do is stop giving the other team points and we're going to get there. And I'm not a negative poster at all in the years when the Jets look good. Quite the opposite. I'm a negative poster when the franchise is disintegrating. The offense has given the other team roughly 31 points so far this season, counting the INT/fumble TD (Texans), the FG off of a fumble at their own 16 (Patriots), the TD after Sanchez fumble on the opponent's 45 (Titans) and the two give away TDs today. That's something that they should be able to substantially improve upon even if they can't get the offense clicking at full speed, which they probably can't given the systemic issues involved.
^ The defense can make that happen. this HC did ask for Sanchez to manage games and not win them. He won the 1st three, and today he had his rookie game. No rookie QB has ever started his rookie season 4-0 in the 1st 4 games. This was going to happen. The nice thing is that he faced the best defense he'll see in the next month. The confidence and learning will be easier on shitty teams like Miami, Oakland and Buffalo. Today was a good lesson though and it needed to be taught. I'm glad it was this game and not the sorry divisional opponents this year. A 2TD, 3INT performance against a division rival would crash the servers around here.
D played great, Sanchez finally stuggled and our O-line for some reason still cant seem to play very good. An we saw Shonne Greene.
Fair enough................ Well the D is most likely going to get better...... Pace comes back. An interesting thing is, it seemed like Ryan let Shepard and Strickland heal for a week against the best O in the NFL. So they are coming back..... that bodes well. The Saints and the Titans have provided the league with the blueprint on how to defeat the Jets O/Sanchez. The O at this point just seems devoid of playmakers. That really puts Sanchez in a pinch. IMO I think this Jets team isn't as good as the Ravens were on offense last year. I don't think the D can compensate for what the offense lacks enough to get the Jets to the title game. I think the Jets are on track for an 10-11 win season. That is substantially better than the 6-9 wins I thought prior. Ryan sped the development of the D by a year or two. However, if the Oline can clear up their problems, Sanchez can put this game behind him and a playmaker will step up on O, well then the Jets can most definitely get to the title game. That's a lot of ifs though.
I am extremely confident in this team but I am an admitted sunshiner. Hearing this from Br4dway makes me even more confident. I'm not ready to say we ARE going to the AFC championship game but I am ready to say we have as good of a chance as any other team in the AFC.
who knows.... injuries/players breaking down weather teams getting hot at the right time poor performances in big games the NFL can change in an instant. Looking ahead is the worst thing you can do in football, even as a fan. We did this last year when we were 8-3 and while this is not the same team by any stretch of the imagination, you don't know what's going to happen. Shit..i still can't believe we were 8-3 The only thing we know is that there's 12 more games, and that we're 3-1 right now. Pretty damn good for the first quarter of the season. Our schedule looks favorable, but it did last year too. You never know what teams can do on a week by week basis. So we just need to take it one day at a time. The more victories we have, the more we can start thinking about the playoffs and what can happen from there...but its way too early to think about that. if we pound the dolphins next week i'll feel much better
if we played them again tomorrow we probably win the game. we have only sanchez to play better (or play not as bad). we still scored as many points (10) with sanchez (and the o-line/running game) playing poorly as did they with their O facing our D. the score turned in their fav on one play (99 yrd int). they won the game, they were better sunday, but not much better. if we play them 10 times, we win 9.
This OL the way it is currently playing isn't good enough to take us deep into the playoffs with a rookie QB.
To be fair, the OL has been facing one great front 7 after another these past few weeks... it's not a surprise that they haven't looked outstanding. Now that the schedule is calming down a bit the OL should have a chance to get settled in and start forming a rhythm that should carry them into the playoffs.
I don't know how far we will get but i am now convinced we are headed for good things. If mark can limit the TOs we can go far. W/ that said I just want to get to 4-1 next week and we'll worry about the rest of the season after that,
I think we need to open up the playbook to help the OL out. Clowney is one of the great mysteries, why can't he get on the field? We need to figure out a way to get that 8th man out of the box. I think the only way we do that is by taking a couple shots downfield per game and connecting on some.
What happens in the playoffs? The Jets appear to have the real deal on D if we stay healthy in the middle. We want to run the ball but we don't have an O that matches up with 8 men fronts because our TE can't block worth shit. We can't seem to get enough protection for Sanchez to let him go down field to back out the Defense either. It seems to me if we want to establish the power running game they need to take Keller off the field and stop all the shifting and just run the freaking ball. It also looks like Greene is nicked up and Jones looks slow as can be hitting the hole. Hard to see us establishing a clear power running game with Leon and Jones. We are going to have to really on Sanchez passing the ball to put points on the board. That probably means a few games like this one where we get great D and Sanchez either wins it or losses it. In the long run we are better off doing that anyway.
I totally agree. Our defense made that 'high-flying' Saints O look average. Kerry Rhodes did miss a couple of tackles, but he was lights-out in coverage. Same with Leonhard. Revis is equal to Asomougha at this point. He had trouble in the rain last week but he more than made up for it yesterday. Kris Jenkins is still amazing. I loved watching him bitch-slap the middle of their offensive line all day long. Harris and Scott are starting to get it together in coverage, and they are easily in the top 3 as a tandem in run-stopping. And now we get Calvin Pace back, and hopefully Sheppard and Strickland. The sky is the limit with this defense.
I don't see B'way as a negative poster, although he has his moments. I've argued with him for years, but he has been right more than he has been wrong, mostly about how the coaching and FO deficiencies hurt the team. I like it when a good judge of talent sees the same things I do. I am very excited about the future of the New York Jets.
We are struggling up front on o but I still believe that will work itself out and as Sanchez progresses we will be really tough to beat. As it is he gave NO 2 TDs and we were still tough to beat as that game wasn't put away until late. I feel very good about this team.
I'm a strong believer in chemistry and consistency... the early part of this schedule hasn't allowed Sanchez and the o-line to develop a rapport that will allow them to play off of one another. I know the running game was all together from last year to this year, however they also had support from the passing game which they don't really have this year. I think what will happen is the next few games will allow the offense to begin to set the tone for what they want to do this season and begin to develop chemistry / rapport. Once things get to slow down for the entire offense, they'll be allowed a chance to become good at what they want to do which will make them stronger down the stretch. I'm not overly worried at this point.
I'd really like the Jets to use Washington as the 1st down back more often. He gives them more options, including running him behind Tony Richardson, and they can put Jones in as the defense wears down to use his old but fresh legs to best advantage.
The only way we make the playoffs is: 1-O-line has to protect Sanchez better and open holes for the running game 2-Sanchez has to PROTECT THE FUCKIN BALL! 3-Shone Greene stays healthy and turns into our version of Brandon Jacobs(sans the injuries) Captin obvious has spoken
Simple exercise that will put things into perspective for you: Look at our remaining schedule and ask yourself who can score points on the Jet's defense. We gave the Texans 7 points. We held the Pats to 9. We just held Drew Brees and company to 10 points on defense. I really do not see anybody left on the schedule that is likely to be better than those 3 teams at scoring points. All we have to do to make the playoffs is have our offense score about 10 points a game more than it gives up. That should not be hard to do.
