I agree with you 100% Bradway. However, we can see that Wilkerson and Coples will be a force on the line for years to come. The pass rush will come, all we need is an athletic OLB that can get to the QB. This problem could be addressed in the draft as it seems to be very deep on the defensive side of the football. Could you imagine how much better Revis would be if the front 7 was as good as lets say the 49ers or if he had Ngata and Suggs rushing the QB in front of him? My only problem with letting Revis walk is that he is the best defensive player in football (at his position, arguably in the league?). Like I said in an earlier post, I think the best thing to do is to try and trade Cromartie and shift some, if not all, of his money saved and throw it at Revis. Everyone knows how well Cromartie played this year, is it that crazy to think we can't get a 2nd rounder back since that is what we paid for a 'troubled' player in S.D? He's coming off one of his best years in the league.
correct it takes having no brains to advocate trading away your best player a future HOF in the prime of his career for a couple of draft picks.
Can't trade Revis after 2013, he's a free agent, or will be when he opts out...no way he plays in 2014 for 3M. If he walks after 2013 it's a 9M cap hit (his prorated bonuses would accelerate to the 2014 cap) and would only get at most an end of the third round comp pick. Trading Revis has to be considered in those terms and the odds of being able to afford him in 2014, remember the team is already committed to 85 million in cap space for 2014 (and that's with Scott and Pouha taken off the cap for that year). Considering that Revis is probably going to want 12-14 after 2013, trading him has to be considered assuming you can get a somewhat reasonable value).
Not every teams cap has money allocated the same way. The best players on every team get paid the most. Though I agree that having a lot of money tied to one position is bad cap management, I don't agree with the logic that Revis or Cro should not be paid a certain amount because the current Super Bowl starting CBs are only making a certain amount.
Highest Paid CB in 2012 Nnamdi Asomugha at Cornerback $11,000,000 Brent Grimes at Cornerback $10,281,000 Champ Bailey at Cornerback $8,000,000 Johnathan Joseph at Cornerback $7,250,000 Chris Gamble at Cornerback $6,750,000 Corey Webster at Cornerback $6,500,000 DeAngelo Hall at Cornerback $6,000,000 Brandon Flowers at Cornerback $5,750,000 Kelvin Hayden at Cornerback $5,400,000 Cortland Finnegan at Cornerback $5,000,000 You got to imagine Revis is going to want at least what Asomugha is getting. When you consider how much Asomugha sucked and how Camp Bailey got abused in the playoffs why shouldn't Revis get that or more?
The real question is why any CB is making an amount so out of sync with their actual contributions to wins and losses?
Be interesting to see what Patrick Peterson will get then, Especially with his special teams contributions
If Patrick Peterson gets a big contract and then the Cardinals turn into a double-digit win team every year that makes the playoffs often and is in the Super Bowl conversation most seasons? Worth every dime. Somehow I don't think that's how it is going to go down.
In my few years following the NFL, theres only one position worth paying for continued success QB. I want my first Jets jersey, Revis is the obvious choice because of his caliber, but I just don't see him in ganggreen again. I hope the new GM gets rid of our top heavy spending team.
Draft Dee Millner @ 9 and take the Revis or Cromartie debate right off the table if you want top notch DB's
Enough of the Revis trading suggestions. That is ridiculous to even type out, he is our best player and is a FHOF-er and with Cromartie improved and good consistent safety play we will be a force in the secondary plus our up in coming D-line get them LBs fresh with a draft pick and it looks like a really good D I say draft a superior LB and IF MAYBE by chance Tyrann is in the 2nd round snag him at #9 round 2 then rest Offensive players.
Brilliant... We should have a top 5 defense and a bottom 3 offense. Thats what wins championships... Oh wait. I forgot in this league, that great balanced offenses with good defenses win championships in this league. The Ravens nor the 49ers would not be where they are unless their QBs stepped up big time like they did while having very good rush attacks. Dont you people get it? Dont you get the way the NFL is today? Its as clear as day. You need a franchise QB and a top 10 offense. You need playmakers on the offensive side. You need good play in the trenches. You do NOT need 3 first round picks at the CB position tying up 20% of the cap- thats not a recipe for a championship team.
Trade Sanchez, Sign A Smith, Cut the obvious dead weight, Make Tebow the Special Teams Captain just to ruin his ego and Bring back Mark brunell and his resprirator
Because we all know that Belli suffered from not acquiescing to overpaid defensive back Divas. You have three levels to shut down a wideout, but tying up 10 % of your salary cap in a defender whose opposition s good for 8 plays a game IF HE'S REALLY GOOD..is a smart move. Revis is a great player. No doubt. But he overvalued his position.
There is not a person, on the planet....that thinks Alex Smith could handle the NY Media, except you. That puts him two steps behind Nacho coming in.... You're rationale?
So, tell us...what per engage of the salary cap do you allocate to a defensive Back that covers one, maybe two wideouts. Or,o's the premise wrong? You build teams from the ball out. A DB looking for 16 mil a year, should go look elsewhere especially under these rules.
