I remember sitting down in front of the owners box and watching fans give him a ration of shit every time the Jets screwed up.

    And that was often.

    ^ Amen to that junc.

Rozelle forces Namath to sell his share in Bachelor's III ("bookies?") yet Leon-the-owner gets to keep his stake in Monmouth Park Raceway....b.s.

Moves the team to "Giants" stadium to make some money on the Monmouth Park deal as well....claims it was because, among other things, Shea's bathrooms didn't pass muster.

And what's his legacy? Those stupid e'fin' "The Hess Truck's Here!" commercials come each Christmas season.

I don't know who wrecked Christmas more, Leon Hess or Bruce Springsteen with that oh-so-precious, lame-ass cover of "Santa Claus is Coming to Town."

The difference btw leon and Woody are Leon didn't care about winning and didn't gouge fans whereas Woody wants to win, spends to win and has screwed the fans financially. I'd rather pay a few extra bucks and win than go through the leon years again.

This will be the first time under Woody we have missed the playoffs 3 straight years.

Woody's not a bad owner. IDK why people give him so much crap. It's not easy to build a perennial winner. Sometimes it takes a bit of luck.

Take a look at the Pats. Even with Belicheat as coach, would they have accomplished what they did without drafting that QB from Michigan in the 6th round who got his chance when the Jets hurt their other QB?

The Colts. They drafted one of the greatest QBs of all time first overall. What if they drafted Leaf instead? Then they let him go and they suck enough to get a QB who was touted as the next best thing. They suck for a year and are back to being a contender.

You can go on and on about teams like that and then you can look at the tons of teams who have won nothing. 14 teams have never won a super bowl. That's almost half the league. Many of those teams have been perennial losers... Worse than the Jets. Five other teams have won it the same amount of times as the Jets.

We may suffer a lot, but there are NFL franchises that are worse than the Jets and owners worse than Woody.

I don't think Woody's a bad owner, he's just clueless which in turn results in a bad product being the Jets. He doesn't know football the way a lot of other owners do. So he relies on his FO and CS to do run the entire operation. Woody happens to hire the wrong people and that's why this team has been futile for a few years now.

Other franchises have suffered worse than us yet none of them are in nearly as demanding a city as New York. 45 years in NY is like 90 years with some of these other bad teams.

What is he supposed to do? Be Jerry Jones? Let him show the football people to make decisions. You think kraft meddles? No he let's his football people make decisions.

The difference is in the results. Kraft's people are doing their job, so are Seattle's, San Fran's, Denver's etc. The Jets brass hasn't. Let's see if Idzik can get us there.

    Great post. I totally agree, especially with points 1, 3 & 4.

The team has hired too many defensive-minded coaches, and too many rookie HCs. They need someone who is offensive-minded and who has experience as a HC. He shouldn't have to learn on the job. I'd prefer someone with NFL experience, but think I'd prefer a college HC who has a great resume over an NFL coordinator who has never had any experience as a HC.

He definitely needs to be more of a disciplinarian, someone who will hold players accountable and run a fairly tight ship. Hopefully, he won't be a douche like Mangini or Coughlin, but will be somewhere in the middle between Rex and those guys.

I'd also want the new HC to keep the same offensive system. One of the major problems the Jets have had over the years is when they have changed HCs, they almost always have had to change one or both of the offensive and defensive systems, which meant turning over the roster. I think Mornhinweg's system or a similar WCO is excellent. Since the D has played both 3-4 and 4-3, that wouldn't be as big an issue imo. Some think the team would be better served switching to a 4-3 alignment anyway.

I'm curious why you think they'll need to make a splash with the new HC hire. That doesn't seem like Idzik's modus operandi to me. Also, with mostly a young team, why would they need a big name? I can see why they'd need that with an older, more veteran team. I would think a younger guy who is no-nonsense and a good teacher would be just as good as a big name, and possibly even better.

when it was that we were interviewing him(which we did), people laughed at us for looking at a college coach. as much as I love Rex I think Jim is the best coach in the game.

Did we really interview him? Man, if we had him instead of Rex, Sanchez might actually be a good QB.

Since Rex came here he has almost annually admitted he mishandled things (except his beloved defense) and promised he would change (and improve). But for three seasons now all we see is dysfunction, folding down the stretch, poor decision making (esp with the Qb position), poor execution and penalties. He's had five years and things have gotten worse. I do believe he has the talent to play a lot better than the team has shown on the field. There are weak spots and injuries but there is no perfect team in the NFL. They all can be defeated. Other team's coaching staffs do a better job preparing their teams and on gameday the Jets come out flat. He's had his shot now let's go in another direction. One guy I like is Jay Gruden (not John). He's done a very good job with the Bengals, breaking in a rookie Qb last year successfully, managing a good offense plus he was a head coach for years in Arena Football and his teams were good.

I don't know that much about Jay Gruden. Was he ever a HC at the collegiate level? Aside from Shaw, Jay Gruden is probably the only other candidate I know of at this time that I'd be interested in seeing the Jets hire.

    My list(in order of preference):

    1. Darell Bevell(Got the Seattle connection with Idzik. Developed Russell Wilson. Done well with an offense bereft of talent besides Lynch and Wilson. Up and coming coach in the league.)

    huge gap

    2. Jon Gruden(Great offensive mind. Everyone's favorite because of MNF. Reason he isn't #1 is because its a bad fit.)
    3. David Cutcliffe(Very off the radar, but makes a ton of sense. Just think about it.)
    4. Mike Zimmer(Idzik won't go with a defensive guy, but if he did, Zimmer it is.)

Rex's defense has been ripped to shreds week after week and he comes out swinging the same way every time, how many weeks do we have to watch Rex put our poor Cornerbacks in one on one coverage with minimal safety help? How many weeks do we have to watch Rex send weak blitzes that always get picked up? I could have sworn people said this guy was a defensive genius and knew how to get creative, but this year our defense has been so predictable and every offense knows the routine on how to beat this team. There's a reason this team pretty much gives up at least one 50+ yard TD pass almost every week, it's the offensive strategy to beat us.
