You have to look at where you can most accurately find an adequate replacement for said player......

Starting LT's typically require a top half first round pick.

Starting CB's are usually first round picks

Starting LB's are first day picks

Starting centers are typically not first round picks.

If all things being equal then you would have to say the center is the most expendable. All things are most likely not equal.

Mangold is the second best player of the 4 and arguably the top center in the league. So it skews things a bit.......

    Revis >>> Mangold > Brick > Harris

Although I would venture a guess and say not one is expendable and the Jets will go out of their way to sign all 4.

Yup. This Franchise goes as far as those guys + Sanchez + Rex Ryan can take them over the next 5 years or so. Hopefully they are championship caliber guys and Tanny can keep enough talent to go along side them.

True very true.......... On my list I meant to put Brick ahead of Mangold. I know Brick is not the better player but his position is way too valuable.

A lot of this will come down to the contracts needed to sign them too-

David Harris we can keep for much less then the others so he's the obvious choice to go, but that also makes him easier to keep.

I know this is a "what if" scenario but I don't think it's relevant because we'll keep them all.

It's like asking if we had to trade Sanchez who would you want in return-

Damn as much as i would hate to lose any of them, it would have to be Harris. Everyone else is either the best at they're position if not close.

I think most likely to leave would be DBrick. Harris would cost much less and I am sure the team will focus on Mangold and Revis. DBrick will get the most on the market. If he is lost, they would probably re-sign Harris.

Come on, its not THAT far fetched, thats why I started the thread. I wouldnt have asked what we would get for Sanchez in a trade, but when you have a lot of talent like the Jets do, a healthy market, and not a whole of money to throw around- these things happen.

NE, Baltimore, the Colts and Steelers are teams that are always losing big name guys in free agency its inevitable- They have done a good job recognizing who they can let go and who they can't. So I'm just bringing it up to my fellow fans who we think would be easiest to lose.

I don't know, the main thing is the changes after the new CBA is signed. Once we see what differences are made, it will be much more clear whether or not keeping all of these guys is possible..

You have to retain the young o lineman and you can't let the best cornerback leave. It's a passing league now, you need good cornerbacks. I don't want any of these guys to go. If anything I'd rather let Crom, Holmes, and Edwards walk after this season to retain the original four. This is a strong possibility.

One thing we can count on, whatever the new CBA is, is some salary cap relief in terms of a rookie cap. These crazy rookie salaries are almost certainly a thing of the past so it will be easier for teams to keep there veteran players who produce. I think this is something that is overlooked when we discuss all the players that need to be signed. We may be able to keep more than we think.

It would have to be Harris - with that said I'm firmly against letting go of any of them.

No wonder you are Browning Nagle. Mangold better not leave this OL. Same for D'Brick and Revis.

If you study where Rex excels at, you'll promptly say Harris. (Bart Scott was undrafted, if I have to enlighten you. If anyone's good at finding his defensive player out of undrafted pool, that's Rex Ryan. Still he had to draft a top quality CB like K-Dub, meaning premium CBs are hard to find out of the UDFA crop.)

All contracts being equal, it's definitely Harris. Of course, the market for each player is going to be drastically different and signing one (like Revis at $18-20 mill/year) will surely affect the team's ability to sign the others.

I look at it this way...

Centers drafted in the NFL since 2005:

    2005
    Chris Spencer - Seattle
    David Baas - 49ers
    Richie Incognito - Rams
    Eric Ghiaciuc - Bengals
    Duke Preston - Bills
    Jason Brown - Ravens
    Junius Coston - Packers
    Drew Hodgdon - Texans
    Robert Hunt - Colts
    Geoff Hangertner - Panthers
    Scott Mruczkowski - Chargers

    2006
    Mangold - Jets
    Ryan Cook - Vikings
    Chris Chester - Ravens
    Jason Spitz - Packers
    Greg Eslinger - Broncos
    Marvin Phillip - Pitt
    Chris Morris - Raiders
    EJ Whitley - Dallas
    Will Montgomery- Panthers

    2007
    Ryan Kalil - Panthers
    Samson Satele - Phags
    Leroy Harris - Titans
    Dustin Fry - Rams
    Doug Datish - Falcons
    Drew Morimo - Phags
    Mike Elgin - Pats

    2008
    Mike Pollack - Colts
    Kory Lichtensteiger - Broncos
    Cody Wallace - 49ers
    Steve Justice - Colts
    John Sullivan - Vikings
    Jamey Richard - Colts

    2009
    Alex Mack - Browns
    Eric wood - Bills
    Max Unger - Seattle
    Antione Caldwell- Texans
    John Luigs - Bengals
    Blake Schlueter - Broncos
    AQ Shipley - Steelers

Only 2 of them have played in the PB and most of them aren't even in the league. I'd say that keeping Mangold who is the best at his position in the league is a priority. You don't allow people like him to walk without consequences. We've been so spoiled with centers even going back to the mid 80's that we forget what it is like to have a revolving door.

So true. For 12 years running now we've had perennial pro-bowlers at center.
In that time the Dolphins have had 6 guys.

Mangold's not going anywhere. Realistically none of them are.

    Has to be Harris.

Rex Ryan helped Bart Scott become Bart Scott when Bart was just an UDFA. You have Revis and Mangold who are the best player at both of their positions in the entire NFL, so you simply cannot let either one of those two go. Follow those two up with D'Brick who is your Left Tackle and everybody knows just how important a LT is to a franchise Quarterback.

Now if it had to be anyone but Harris, I'd pick Revis as the 2nd most likely to go. Ryan has won with some no-name or simply put, average players at the Cornerback position before.

nobody goes anywhere, youll see Pace/Ellis/Woody/Thomas become casualties before they do.

Ellis has a nice chunk coming off the books.(even tho hes one of my fav Jets) Thomas a solid amount. Woody got a solid contract. Would hate to see Pace go but id part with him before Harris. a pass rusher can be found in mid rounds even if theyre one dimmensional (pace isnt)

Draft a DE 1st rd, hopefully Slauson can do anything and maybe kick Ducasse to RT.

im sure Tanny has at least 5 different contingency plans for this whole ordeal
