I can just see it now: "Jet's coach Eric Mangini was found in a stupor in his SUV by the side of the road late last night. There was an empty half gallon container of Carvel Ice Cream by his side and he was mumbling incoherently about Robert Kraft trying to get him suspended by the NFL for the offense of winning a Super Bowl while Bill Belichik still drew breath..."
Oakland is that kick in the ass game every playoff team needs (well, almost every one). It should be the wakeup call that you can be beaten any given week if you let your guard down. If the Jets win the division, that will be the game we point to and say that was the turning point. In the mean time, it is still a sick festering sore on the record.
hobbes and blocker, youre missing my point. Its reporters and fans talking SB, so what? Its not like the Jets are snapping each other in the ass with towels in the lockerroom askin eachother what theyre gonna do when they get to Tampa...this "shhhh dont talk superbowl" superstition or whatever you want to call it is dumb. And Hobbes, the Giants lost to the Browns, can they talk SB?
Ftr I am not the least bit concerned about whether the players might be affected by our talk here, Heh! I don't think there's much to be concerned about there. I juts don't see the point in looking too far ahead, for two reasons. One is a season like this, with the exciting team the Jets are this year, is one I want to enjoy week to week, and not look ahead too much. But I concede that's just a perception thing with me. I've lately been having trouble whistling and taking a dump at the same time, too. But the other reason is vastly more important - no need to set myself up for a letdown. If things turn out great, I'll enjoy it as it happens. I happen to think that's the right attitude, but if others feel different, I guess I should not be too concerned. But it's not about the team. Heh heh.
No, it is not time for that. Only unimaginative lazy sports writers who can't come up with anything better to fill 10 deadlines between games have time for that.
Halfway through last season there were a ton of Giants fans calling for Coughlin's head and questioning Eli...
