If the last 40 years of this franchise's pathetic existence are any indication, the posters on this board have a lot more sense than the intellectually challenged dimwits in the Jets organization.
Yes, Ryan will be fired, and Woody is going to sell the team. You heard it here first. Curtis Martin will take over as owner, and Wayne Chrebret will be GM/HC. The glory days are ahead of us!!!
No, he'll fuck it up and just stand around and do nothing while collecting a paycheck. Once fired, he'll complain that he didn't get a fair shake. He's the black Kellen Clemens.
better than Parcells who quit like a dog at the first sign of adversity and certainly vastly better than Ewbank for his entire losing record career ending by hiring his retarded son-in-law to take over
Rex is not going anywhere. However, I just don't want Brian gone, I also want a very detailed explanation of how and why he was allowed to stay here for so long. What is the percent chance Schotty is gone after this season? I say 70%.
2 AFC championship games in 2 years...and a non losing season in year three that still has a slim playoff shot --the most successful 3 year run in Jet history and players that love playing for him? Yeah I don't think so.
I really think you lack total understanding as to what the NFL is all about. Success other then to the fans is about winning the SUPER BOWL you know the one where they hand you the VLT? If you will take RRs teams records if you desire to look back they are NO difference then Mangini or Herm or for that matter any of the HCs we have since Weeb. Since all those coaches were made to move on then why not RR also? Certainly at least IMHO he does not have the brain power to compete with BB & as BB is our division we should try to get a coach that has BB smarts otherwise we will continue to be also ran's until BB decides he has had enough. You also need a HC who can judge players. Do you think he has done a good job in judging players say like Wayne Hunter or Eric Smith or maybe even Bart Scott?
Let me make a prediction for all you wet behind the ears Namath bashers - in 10 years, when Rex Ryan is on the scrap heap of failed Jet coaches along with Charlie Winner, Lou Holtz, Joe Walton, Bruce Coslet, Herm Edwards and the rest, Joe Namath will still be an icon in this town and in the football world. Count on it. As for firing him, it would be foolish after this season to fire him. But the team better come out breathing fire next year, because another failure will send him on his way. It will be a lot tougher for Woody Johnson to put up with Ryan's shenannigans if the team is not competing at a high level.
There is no way Rex gets fired. He has done a bad job at times this year, and keeping Schotty might be his fault, but he has taken this team to 2 AFCCG's with one of the worst qb's in the NFL and the worst OC in the NFL.
Yes, because all teams would fire a coach for having a .500 season after going to the conference championship game his 1st 2 years. Good thin Cleveland canned Belicheck as coach too. And if you think it's the same as the Herm / Mangini years, you are sadly mistaken. The SB is the goal but your SB or nothing rant is a bit old as it's clouding your objectivity.
By your logic, Tom Coughlin should have been fired the year before he got a VLT with the NYGs. Against the great BB. It is not always about winning the trophy ASAP. Sometimes it it about an organization showing resolve and confidence in a CS that is reviled by a fan base that is made fair weather by an opportunistic NY media. And RR has done a better job competing with BB than most coaches in this league, even as a coordinator. Your HO about his brain power is short sighted and incorrect. IMHO.
I dunno man. 11 years is a long time to wait for Rex to deliver a SB. I'm thinking more like 5, 6 years on the outside.
Come now; what would you do, fire a HC every time the team doesn't win the Super Bowl? I'm critical of Rex's job performance this season; he is ultimately responsible for this fiasco of a year. The most critical problem Rex has is being too loyal, both to players and assistants, and being too hands off with the offense (and yes, the inconsistent defense is his fault too). That said, you do not fire a HC who has gone to two AFC title games after a single off year. Now, if Rex fails to right the ship in the next season or two, he'll be gone, and rightly so. But it is a little early to be calling for his head.
I say that because despite the heartbreak this year, Jets are not in the Bengals/Lions tier for quality draft rotation (which is a good reason for an organization to have revolving door patience with coaching staff. Jets do not have that reason), and I look at past trends in recent years. I conclude that Rex is still a worthy investment for both the team, the media, and the fans. I don't follow the inner politics of the Jets as much, but I assume Rex doesn't micromanage the team with an iron fist as nearly as Reid has. You also have a media which despite being New York still puts the heat on their coaches in a way the Philly press doesn't (yeah I know it might seem different THIS year, but the history proves my point).
See my post to champ. Just because Rex coaches in NY doesn't mean he has to be subject to some self destruct code that is dictated by the most impatient fans in the universe, as dictated by the laziest group of sports journalists the world has ever seen. At some point, the Jets need to show some spine. Hell, he AT LEAST deserves the amount of leash that Herm Fraudwards was given. Can you at least agree to that, C?
Well, we'll see if Rex does have that self-destruct DNA his dad was famous for. I agree that Rex should get about the same amount of time that Herm got. That's why I said give him 5 -6 years. By then, we'll have a pretty good idea just how good a HC Ryan is. Hopefully, he'll be a lot more polished in his approach and find that happy medium between player's coach and disciplinarian.
