Winny you know outside of the 2 WC teams Cleve & Oak that we played vs NE Indy & Den they played exactly the same schedule as us. Yes STRUCTURE of a organization is the key to its success. The more structure the more success (see Toyota vs Ford as a example)
The funny thing is we've seen both highs and lows in almost all areas. Chad opened the season with two 300+ yard games and basicly carried the team for the 1st 1/3 of the season but has also put in some horrible performances in the second half. Our running game has looked decent with Houston and Washington getting the majority of the carries. While Barlow has stunk it up more often than not. We all know how bad our defense was the 1st half of the season, but I'd wager that our D is top 5 when it comes to 3rd down defense in the second half of the season. I actually reckon our pass defense has been pretty good, opposing QBs have a lot of time to throw the ball but often can't find anyone open. We've got a lot of coverage sacks too.
As a south florida fan (& no NFL package) I have only seen about 4-5 games this year, from what I've seen (exception the Jaguars game) is that we bring other teams to our level. We have been competitive against almost everyone weve played. That is a tribute to our coaching staff, Chad, defensive players stepping up (Brian Thomas - K Rhodes), special teams, & mistake free good football. We may not wow anyone but we do put ourselves in the position to win most games. I'll take that & our so call "not great at anything" any day. In the end its just wins & losses. We are building an excellent base here, sure we can improve on all levels & we will.
They said on ESPN that since the break we are #1 in the NFL in pass defense. Drob and Thomas have really stepped up.
I agree with you. For whatever reason, the defense became far more aggressive in the second half of that game, and has played very well since then. I don't think it's a coincidence that they're 5-2 since the bye (and hopefully 6-2 after Sunday) compared to 4-4 before it.
It's interesting that their run defense has actually gotten markedly worse since the break. It's not Colts level bad yet but since the bye the Jets have been giving up over 5 YPC and that's even with a pathetic 26 attempts for 27 yards performance by the Texans in the middle of it all.
I also think we have alot of speed on defense. That doesn't necessarily make the defense GREAT, but it helps.
And even though we had an easy schedule, 2 teams that are going to the playoffs, other than the Jets, have easier schedules....Chicago being one...
Are we good at winning: Yes 9 wins' (Hopefully one to come?) Are we good at passing: Yes in most games we have good passing (This year the average QB is putting up 150-250 yard per game. (There are exceptions) Are we good at running: Believe it or not yes. Between the three guys we have 1297. Yards and 14 touch down's (Not too shabby) Are we good at defense:Yes we have held opponents to low numbers in a lot of games. Are we good on special Teams: Yes, who has run one back on us, No one. And how’s are return game "Its miller time". Finally How's are coach doing, Just fine (Eric Mangini "coach of the year")
Let us not lose sight of the fact that the weather conditions in Miami were horrible if you were a QB. Of course it will effect Chad. Yet, Chad played decently enough, all things considered. When I saw the weather on MNF, I knew it was going to be a tough game.
Absolutely. And that is why you should be VERY confident about the future. The Salary-cap era of the NFL is all about coaching. We are destined for greatness. Mark my words.
I think the reality is that the Jets aren't really excellent in any area. But there are no weaknesses. They don't have a pitiful run D like the Colts. They don't have terrible WRs like the Pats or Seahawks. They don't have a liability at QB. They have one of the best special teams in the NFL (except for a few bad bounces lately). And, as other have said, excellent coaching is the key.
GoG isn't wrong though, we aren't great in any area. We're not a good team either way when it comes to running the ball, but we have great special teams and a solid pass defense. #1 in the NFL 2nd half surprises me, but if you can stop the pass and you can control the ball and not turn it over, you'll win games.
I'm watching this Bobby Knight segment on ESPN and there's film of him screaming at his team, "Smart wins!" Then he says in an interview that it's not about how the bigger you are, the better you are, it's not the faster you are the better you are, it's the smarter you are the better you are. He said he would take smarts over athletic ability anyday. This is the what we have working for us.
Welcome first of all. I can see that as well. Godd team chemestry,I havent heard one thing this year other then that comment from Coles that maybe we should part company again(When he wasnt getting the ball). If we can go on one of those runs this might be a nice season deep into febuary.
