Hey, I'm pulling for the kid and as I mentioned I picked him for the Jets in my mock. I think he's worth the wait if he only misses a year. I don't know about the specifics of your relatives but the type of nerve damage. Peroneal nerve damage isn't going to affect his quads. It'll affect things below the knee. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Common_peroneal_nerve
Did he have peroneal nerve damage? Or did he have femoral nerve damage? Big difference. And how extensive? In any event, effecting things "below the knee" (not sure how you would know this without his medical records) will still effect the amount of weight you can squat and leg press. Why don't we just agree that we have no idea and that it's a good sign rather than bad a bad sign that he's squatting and leg pressing a ton of weight. _
I guess the question is how much was he pressing before. You can find online James Harrison pressing 1000 lbs
Here's the article where the football doc first noticed the afo. You can do more research if you want. https://www.washingtonpost.com/news...or-former-notre-dame-linebacker-jaylon-smith/
How is that relevant? Harrison is a grown man and outweighs him by 30+ pounds. There are probably 170 pound weightlifters that can leg press 1200 lbs. The fact that he is squatting and leg pressing formidable amounts of weight --TO ME-- is evidence that the reports of his nerve damage were either wildly over exaggerated or that whatever nerve damage he had is subsiding and the nerve is regenerating. If he had extensive nerve damage he would not be leg pressing 600 lbs and squatting 400 lbs because nerve damage EFFECTS STRENGTH. But please continue to disagree. I got Pho to make. _
So I'd ask those doctors just like I'd ask you, Doctor, what did his medical records say. What specifically in his medical records showed you what type and how severe his nerve damage was? If you are worried about HIPPA, just pm me his medical records and I promise not to share them. I love when doctors diagnose people from afar. _
Yes you've been making plenty of pho assumptions already. Harrison is an example of what football linebackers can leg press. Harrison has 15 lbs on the kid but that doesn't translate into an extra 400lbs on the press. If he used to press 500 and is up to 600 wow that's awesome. If he used to do 600 and is back to 600 then good for him. If he used to do 900 and is at 600 then I'm glad his rehab is progressing but it's not overly impressive. If pressing 600 was signs that there is no nerve damage it would be the talk of every nfl site out there. It's not.
What was he squatting and leg pressing before his injury and surgery. Let's compare and not speculate. And Smith is 245, Harrison 275 and STILL irrelevant. Some guys can leg press better than others. _
I don't know how someone can continue to be so wrong and to keep digging. Gotta go food shop for my Pho. I'll check in later. _
Like you'd know how to read them. Lol. I guess you and I (along with every nfl and medical site) will have to disagree. I do hope the kid makes a full recovery and the Jets land him.
The dude banged as many reps at 225 as Ronnie Stanley. He's obviously no slouch in the weight room and has been touted for his speed. All of a sudden you don't want to speculate? He has not denied the possibility of nerve damage and no NFL team has given him the thumbs up but you want to speculate that he's just fine. My amended statement bc I worded the first one poorly is that being able to press 600 lbs does not mean there is no nerve damage. I promise you this. The day nay the minute that any doctor says that there is no nerve damage it will be the talk of the NFL. That day hasn't happened even though he pressed 600 lbs.
I have femoral nerve damage, and I can tell you right now that there's no way on earth he would be squatting and pressing that much weight with significant damage to his femoral nerve.
Let's wait for the Combine re-check. Both of you guys could be correct. Nobody knows here. But there's definitely going to be some risk picking him high, even with positive medical reports. The problem with picking Smith at 20 in the mock is that we are not in a position to draft a guy with that amount of risk. We're not deep enough in our roster to gamble against the odds that Smith presents. Smith is gonna be a luxury pick for a team that's in a position to gamble on long odds....The rich getting richer sort of. I don't see Mac going with him at 20. Maybe if he can pick up some extra picks, or maybe in the 2nd rd.? If Mac takes him I'll be excited tho. Gotta love Smith.
If it's the Peroneal Nerve, http://www.hopkinsmedicine.org/neur...erve_surgery/conditions/foot_drop_injury.html Symptoms of peroneal nerve injury (foot drop) may include: Inability to point toes toward the body (dorsi flexion) Pain Weakness Numbness (on the shin or top of the foot) Loss of function of foot High-stepping walk (called steppage gait or footdrop gait)
if we land a high ceiling "project qb" that needs to sit for a year and a recoverable J. Smith... Hello SB 52!!
Let's go! Hookers and blow.... on Stokes Yeah, I don't care anymore about who says what about any QB. I just hope Mac can mine out a fukn QB. Don't like this year's top guy's? Pick a guy with a high ceiling potential later on. Pick somebody, anybody, and keep doing it til we get a guy. Of course Petty is still a hope. Even if they like him strongly, just pick somebody anyway. I think Mac would do that.
Yeah I still can't understand the continued use of faulty speculation and improper analogies and irrelevant articles in wikipedia and some random doctors observations from a far and comparisons to one of the strongest MEN in the NFL who is significantly larger than Smith to deny that him squatting and leg pressing a ton means his nerve damage might have been overstated or that his nerves have started to regenerate. No way if he has significant nerve damage he is showing that much strengthen--because as everyone knows--nerve damage impacts strength--but no one will know until the EMG and conduction tests are done. To suggest strength is not impacted by nerve damage is nonsense. _
