i disagree. the statement is true, but the way he went down both times were brutal and are not the kind of tangling up that goes on with most plays. thats my opinion from watching them. and playing and suffering through knee injuries. we can agree to disagree.
im on a cell and havent read the entire thread so forgive me if this has already been said. i doubt he plays for the jets next season unless he is willing to accept a large paycut ... thats if he's even able 2 play.
He's 31 years old and has been a football player all his life, what else is he gonna do. I say give it a shot. Go JENKS!
It really speaks volumes about the guy when all of us as fans agree he should retire. He is a dominant NT but he's a great guy and I think I speak for the majority when I say that we care about him as a person and just want the guy to be ok.
i disagree. see as a jet fan i'd love to se him back as an empathetic human being i would hope he would hang it up and spend time with his family. but if he feels he can do it i say let him do it
first sentence -- disagree. second sentence -- for fuck's sake, man. i'm as compassionate and reasonable as the next guy, but you're making me nauseous.
Well I'm not saying he should be forced to retire or anything. I just don't see how he is going to come back, stay healthy, and have any actual positive impact. I hope he does and it's a big cinderalla story for him, but as one of my favorite players in the league I just hope the decision doesn't come back to bite him. For once I think myself and some others are looking out for a player first before our team. (which like I stated, shows how popular he is) That being said he is only 31 so I guess I could be wrong.
i think this seasons outcome may affect the jets view on jenks a bit. we win the whole thing and jenks won't be back of course. if we come close and sniff it again obviously the jets cut his salary and ask him to give 10 plays a game as a baseline with a few escalators in there if he does make it back and produces. i am sure he would agree to that with hopes of a championship. jil
I don't see how bringing back Jenkins, at a reduced price, for some dline depth would be a bad thing. Draft heavily on the dline and have the veteran Jenkins teach and play in relief. What is bad about that?
Why is there so much concern about his ability to walk? They swap out ACL's like a garage swaps out tires now. If he gets hurt again next year he will just get another new ACL and continue to live his life.
He just won't have a hamstring in one of his legs. ...and who the hell gives a shit if he wants to play again? It's his choice. If he wants to come back and risk permanent health problems, then let him. I'm pretty sure bad knees will be the least of his worries in twenty-or-so years.
I'm amused by the people talking about what the Jets will be able to pay him when next year's cap structure is a total unknown.
It is safe to assume the cap will not be lower than the current cap. So working off of those numbers, it is reasonable to speculate on salary. All I see being said anyway is that he will not come back at the current salary due to multiple knee surgeries. Can you really see the players agreeing to a new CBA that lowers the salary cap?
What we do know is that it is very likely that it won't be much more. One of the big reasons the owners opted out of the current structure is that the players salaries were increasing at a rate that was too high to maintain a good business model for them. I find it very hard to believe the Jets would be willing to pay $6.5 million to a 32 year old DT coming off back to back season ending knee injuries. I don't think it's at all unreasonable to think the Jets will either cut him or pay him less if he returns.
Nothing, its all good. And when he says he wants to come back, I'm sure he knows the pros and cons including a pay-cut. If we get a young NT who better to have for a mentor?
So what happens with Jenx if there's no 2011 season? I could imagine him attempting a 2012 comeback after taking a year off to completely heal.
Forget the Vikings. I don't want to see anyone resting until we get an answer to this pressing question.
