i agree with the above, all jim leonard did as pr was catch it every time and get as many easy yards as he could and let the offense do the hard work.
Cotchery is the most surehanded of the options and he's very good at making the first guy miss as well as having excellent balance and situational awareness when he's carrying the ball. I'd hate to have him get hurt doing this but I have no doubt he'll be pretty good at it. And Cotchery is our best receiver by far. Edwards is more explosive but he has rocks for hands and that has to factor in too.
Drops haven's been a problem for Edwards since he joined the team. Sometimes I'm not sure which team you root for. There will be no dropoff in punt returns with Cotch in. Most (of the reasonable) posters are just concerned it is too big of a risk to take with a starting receiver.
He's had more problems with accurate throws than drops. Doesn't seem like he's dropped any more balls here than any receiver in the league during the same span...the dude said "rocks for hands", I mean, really dude.
fair enough. rocks for hands when it comes to the Jets is unfair. That I can agree with. i'd really wish he held on to that 2pt coversion though.
In the Westhoff interview today he said that Cotchery asked him to return punts and that he was by far the most comfortable with him than any of the other options. He mentioned Lowery and Brad Smith as well.
Cotchery is a beast. Right now Cotch is without a doubt a much better possession receiver than Sancho is a QB, TJ is a RB, or Edwards is a #1.
Its not the time to worry about starters getting injuried. We basiclly need to win out to make the playoffs. We cant loose a game becuase someone cant catch a punt. Its time to go all in.
I assume JCo will be doing mostly fair catches and returning when he can. If he has the surest hands on the team, put him out there. This is New England. We need a win. I have no problem with Cotchery out there. Revis, yes, but not Jerricho.
Drastic times call for drastic measures. Using JCotch doesn't bother me more than using Revis. I've seen JCotch break arm tackles and make guys miss.
Yeah, I think it is alot easier to return a kick-off for big yards than it is a punt. I will sign right now for Cotch to do a lot of fair catches, not take any big hits, and absolutely no fumbles.
