Perhaps I can answer your question. I'm uniquely qualified, as I am not only NOT one of the "idiot Jets fans", but I am not a fan of the Jets at all.

I am an outside observer who just can't help but give you some perspective. I am a fan of another (unnamed) team. Here is the view from outside of the Jets "nation":

Sanchez is 100% of your problem.

Why do I say that? Well, you have a great team in every other aspect of the game. Now, you might think that is ludicrous, but again I am an outsider. I see your forest while you are all looking at the bark on the trees.

You have talent in every other department. Your offensive line has Ferguson and Mangold, two of the best at their positions (IMO Mangold is THE best). Your running backs include a future hall of famer and a solid young player. Your tight end is in the top 10 TE in the game at the minimum. You also have a receiver with a SB ring and another with a Super bowl MVP.

Your defense is excellent, currently seventh in the league with the indisputable best corner in the game.

Your coaching staff has balls of steel. I know you guys are hating on him now, but I can assure you 90% of the fans out there wish their coaches had the sack to do what Rex Ryan does. If he wanted to coach my team I would practically cry with joy and pack our current coach's bags myself.

So what's left? Why is such a strong team in such bad shape?

Well, there's Sanchez. 22nd in QBR (just behind Tavaris Jackson!), 27th in completion%, and in the top third for picks.

I don't blame you for not seeing the obvious. If you listen to the announcers you'd think Sanchez is the next Joe Montana. They refuse to say anything bad about him unless it is completely unavoidable. I've actually heard them compliment him on throwing an interception! It's bizarre. It's almost as if they came up with the whole "Sanchize" thing and now they don't want to be proven wrong.

To finish this post I would like to repeat that I am not a Jets fan. Maybe I don't know enough about the inner workings of the team to make a fair judgment. This might be true, but from the outside it sure as heck seems like if you had an average NFL QB you would be in the super bowl every year for the foreseeable future.

Fair post, but if you saw this team you'd see that Sanchez' problems are largely because an OC plays to his weaknesses rather than his strengths

lol the Giants were expecting pass after pass after the Jets neglected to establish a running game so of course the Giants were in position to get around the area for interceptions.

Defense is excellent?!?!?! What pass rusher is making teams quiver in their boots? Since when did the Jets have stud safeties, especially once the best one(Who is alright) goes out with an injury?

This defense is average AT BEST. The tackling is horrific, the pass rush is nonexistant and the safety play down the middle is slow and often mistimes themselves.

Well honestly, I think after this season we will all know for sure, for I believe the Jets are going to have no choice but to let Schotty move on.

Yet don't be surprised if the results with Mark are simluar to what you are seeing now. Also expect to hear how he will need more time to absorb the new system.

This of course will depend on him clearly beating out McElroy or the veteran they bring to replace Burnell....

    LOL no.

I would love to have your OC on my team.

Again, this is strange to you. You just don't understand what you have right now.

To give you an example of the Sanchez apologism I've heard I will point to something I heard on the radio about tonight's game.

The guy on the radio was criticizing Schottenheimer for calling a lot of short passing plays. The radio guy said that when you do that, it's easy for the defensive line to just raise their hands and knock the ball down.

This is stupid on so many levels!

First of all, virtually all passing plays have long options. It's up to the QB to take the shot. If a QB is rattled they will no longer look at the long option and will dump it quick. This is like quick sand, the more you struggle the worse it gets for you.

Second, it is the QB's job to clear the defenders. It is almost mind boggling that I have to say this, but if you are throwing the ball and it is getting batted down repeatedly it is your fault as the QB for your lack of awareness. Sanchez just doesn't notice those 300 pound guys right in front of him.

Your OC is not your problem, the execution is. Sanchez had 59 chances to make a play! Even the worst QB in the league will make plays with that many chances. Why does Sanchez continue to get a pass? It's stupifying.

You must be a Browns fan or Jags fan or something because a good majority of the OC's in the league are better than Schottenheimer.

And the whole "Sanchez had 59 chances" makes no sense. That's the equivalent of me saying that I had 59 chances of scratching off a bingo ticket and that I am bound to win a million dollars. Yeah sure success CAN happen by throwing that many times but will it more often than not? No, especially when it comes to football. Those that repeat the mistakes are doomed to fail. That's what it comes down to. The Giants caught on to the emphasis of throwing the ball and from there Sanchez was taking his shot on a defense expecting the pass.

As for the long shot takes for Sanchez, here is the problem....the WR either get mixed up in confusion in terms of route running(Ones that should have been down since training camp) or by the time Sanchez finally can see that target in motion, a defender chases him from out of the pocket and makes Mark throw on the run if not run with the ball in fear of Mark getting the ball whacked on his release. Very few QBs can make pinpoint passes while being chased. Very few.

Your defense is excellent. You just don't know it because you are viewing it from the inside.

Think about other teams in the NFL. Think about their defenses. Think about who they have playing corner and safety. If your defense is average, that means there are 16 teams whose defenses you as a fan would gladly exchange for you own. Just having Revis on the field makes your defense better than the bottom 10 defenses!

I know it's hard to hear an outsider on these things but it's the truth. Your defense is one of your strengths, it is not a problem.

Here is a great example of the Sanchez apologist.

No, it's not the third year unproven QB. It's the Super bowl winning receiver and the Super bowl MVP receiver!

Do you see what you sound like to someone outside of the Sanchez propaganda umbrella? You sound straight up crazy.

I would take 95% of the starting safeties in the league over Brodney Pool and Eric Smith and I am being nice with that percentage.

Cromartie has played like he doesn't belong to start, Kyle Wilson has lately been the year 1 Kyle rather than year 2 Kyle and while yeah Revis is awesome, 1 great piece cannot make up for 3 awful pieces in the secondary sadly.

If we're playing this game, Sean Payton said Mark Sanchez is going to be real good in the NFL. Sean Payton, offensive mastermind!

    Sanchez was horrible today. HORRIBLE.
but he's a third year QB and that will happen.

It would be nice if the coaching staff would pay attention to the fucking game and not call SIXTY FOUR pass plays ... in what was a one score game for most of the day.

    Unbelievable.

Yeah, Sean Payton. The same guy who held Eli Manning back and got his offensive play calling duties revoked in NY. The only reason people act like he is some mastermind is because of Brees and Brees was Brees before he even got there.....

Give a real QB 59 attempts and they will break records.

Except that the jets dug them selves in a 20-7 hole in the 4th quarter so he had to throw to get themselves back in the game. My problem was when the jets were down 6 with 5 mins left they kept throwing when they had enough time for a contained drive where we run and pass.
