With a revamped O-line, Pennington becomes the comeback player of the year and by December, we'll all be talking about how we were always his biggest supporters. (For the record, I don't have a lot of faith in Chad or KC) Unless, of course, he gets injured, then We'll have Ainge starting by game 10.
Why would anyone want Pennington behind center at this point? He is not getting younger and he is obviously not a very physically gifted QB that we are looking for. It makes no sense to revert back to something that isn't our future for this franchise. Clemens is obviously someone that needs to be given a proper chance to take over for us in the near future, he now has a solid chance to showcase what he can do behind a 'hopeful' OL. What do you have to lose at this point with Clemens at the helm? Another 4-12 season? Been there, done that. I just think that anything Pennington could do for us, Clemens can do as well, if not more. Considering Clemens actually has the physical tools neccessary for the postion, and he can always learn technique. Pennington has technique but he can't learn how to throw a ball farther or harder for that matter.
Is that right? Make me the fourth then. I've said it before Doc you have been misusing your medication.
NO ONE WANTS PENNINGTON except two or three people on this board PLUS the COACHING STAFF and the FRONT OFFICE....
I can't say I agree with that, it is too broad of a statement. To say a person doesn't want CP because we have the opportunity to have a "better" QB is understandable. However, the options are not there for a "better" QB right now. Say Brady Quinn was available or even Mr. Anderson, I would say hell no I don't want CP... But alas they are not, so what is our option? Start Clemens again? I should hope not. CP is the guy who will start for the NYJ this year. He will probably go 9-7 behind a well-stacked OL and with the OL + quality rushing from Leon and TJ allowing for his play-action maybe even 10-6. I don't care what anybody says (obviously), when CP has time, he CAN make things happen and he will..
As much as I dislike Penningtons skill set there is no doubt in my mind that with a 12 win talent team he can get 9 to 10 wins out of it.
I was thinking the exact same thing, but then I read up on Ainge and apparently he's lacking in mental toughness. (I really wish Hutchinson would be more specific when they make those claims.) While Penny's got a noodle arm and can't make all the NFL throws, he's shown mental fortitude. And that's something that we haven't seen from Clemens. PS: I can't link b/c I don't have enough posts, but the Hutchinson article was published in today's Star Ledger. The quote follows: "Ainge's mental and physical toughness were questioned. He was labeled as inconsistent and injury-prone. His delivery was said to be too slow and his passes too wobbly, his movement in and around the pocket poor. They said he gets rattled under pressure."
I dont think they love him -- I think they think he is a better option than KC. I think with a good line, good TE, and running game, he probably is the better option.
