I completely agree that football is an inexact science, and mistakes are going to be made whatever. However, I just can't agree that there are no dumbasses in front offices. There are dumbasses at every level of every business in the world - there are so many ways to be a dumbass it doesn't have to come down to a basic lack of intelligence, although I'd argue that there will still be basically unintelligent people at every level of every business in the world as well. There are many ways to progress without the need for intelligence or competence.

The front office is certain to make mistakes, they make a lot of decisions every day. I don't know that swapping out 3rd string safties is a huge blunder that should have anyone questioning the move.
It's not like we're replacing Revis with some psycho...again.

The entire thread may be "much ado about Nothing"

Ronald Martin over Rontez Miles? The Jets claimed Martin on Sunday, the day after final cuts, and they waived Miles, who appeared to finally make it after spending most of the last two seasons on the practice squad. Martin seems like more of a box safety, but Bowles said he can play more of a free safety role. Bowles also said he liked what Martin after having watched tape of him with the Seahawks, who had cut Martin on Saturday. As for Miles, Bowles said, "Rontez had a great camp and I told him that myself. I thought he was the most improved guy, but that doesn't mean he was ready. There are still some things he has to learn, but I think he was getting there." Bowles also said he "would like to hope" Miles would re-join the Jets' practice squad after clearing waivers. The Jets still have two open practice squad spots, and Miles' locker had not been cleared out.

    No..

He just happened to be one. But..wait...(had to make sure she was sleeping)

WTF is it with the Jets and Buckeye LB'ers...If we draft Joey Bosa, he turns into Bruce Jenner tomorrow.

Gholston, Schlegel....At least we did employ Tom Tupa for a while...and D.Smith will be a good if not great player for us..

Actually Gholston should be a walking ad for the Ohio State University Business school.

How to make 30 million dollars for doing absolutely nothing, and starting life at 26, rich and unencumbered.

Safety Rontez Miles, a popular and relentless player in the locker room and on the field, has returned to the Jets as a member of the practice squad.

Miles was released Sunday when the Jets acquired Ronald Martin on waivers from Seattle. When Miles cleared waivers today, the Green & White added him as the ninth member of the P-squad.

No? Well, I guess it's a matter of perspective, because to me the following sounds like you're questioning the front office.

    and

Questioning is saying something akin to, "That move is surprising. I don't understand it. I don't think it's a good move, but I'll wait and see how it plays out." I have no problem with questioning moves. I do it. We all do it at times. I' not one to blindly accept something that someone else tells me. IMO, you went way past mere questioning. You went on and on acting like you're a better judge of talent and like you know what's better for this team than they do. You did finally start reigning it in, but not before you put your foot in your mouth.

As to the rest of your comments, it's not just a matter of how players play in preseason games. Bowles evidently is looking for certain characteristics, such as size, as another poster pointed out very well, and the ability to do certain things in his D. One of the Jets weaknesses has been covering TEs and RBs over the middle. Harris can't cover for spit and Davis isn't much better. We know that Bowles likes to run a lot of nickel and dime packages and evidently wants or needs a LB/S hybrid like he had with Phoenix in Bucannon. As Bowles said, Miles had an excellent preseason and was one of the most improved players, but he's not ready. Martin is taller and he's more of a coverage type safety and is good covering TEs. Sounds to me exactly like what we need.

Just because Mac accepted or asked for Posey as part of the trade doesn't mean that was the reason for the trade. It also doesn't mean it was a mistake. There can be good trades that just don't work out. In the Jets' case, even though Posey had a pretty good camp, they had several WRs who really stepped it up and had better camps in Enunwa and Owusu. Had those two not had the camps they did, Posey could have very well been a Jet right now.

    Exactamundo!

Yes, sometimes fans can be right. GMs and HCs are human after all and make mistakes, but with a GM like Mac and a coach like Bowles, I'd bet that there aren't many times where they will be wrong and fans will be right.

Please. You have no clue what you're talking about. Your "feelings" don't mean squat. Neither would mine or anyone else's.

To begin with, what constitutes the "best" guy? Is it the player who had the best stats? Is it the player who had the best TC? If it's either the former or the latter, how do you compare when the two players were on different teams with different systems, CSs, and expectations? You can't compare. It's like apples and oranges. What about which player is a better fit for the D system at hand? What about who's more ready to play at the NFL level? Obviously, they think that Martin is a better fit for Bowles' system and he's more ready to play in the NFL than Miles.

Right now, you're the only one pushing bullshit.

Bingo! Of course you're right. It's common sense. Anyone who pays attention at all to the real world knows that you're correct. Politics and nepotism are everywhere. While living and working in NYC, I worked at Goldman Sachs, the cream of the crop in the investment banking world. Partners would come and go, and with them their cronies. I saw complete and utter incompetent jerks replace totally qualified and excellent people, all because of politics.

So nobody is going to point out the fact that this guy's name is Ronald and not Roland. Someone should change the thread title.
