If that's true, there's absolutely NO reason to continue those Jones trade discussions. We could easily renegotiate him next season without those pesky uncapped year rules. On the flip side, it makes our negotiations with Leon all the more important.
There are no Jones trade negotiations..did you hear Ryan? He certainly didn't sound like somebody full of shit either. ""I promise you, that is ridiculous," he said after Wednesday night's practice at Hofstra. "Shoot, I'm not going to trade that. You know what I'm all about. This guy is huge in our plans. I'm not going to trade the running back that led the AFC in rushing. We ain't dealing him. No way." http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/f...es_to_rip_jones_trade_talk.html#ixzz0OApLa9LN If they were trade him after that Ryan would lose all of his credibility.
There really isn't any reason to continue any Jones trade discussion, because I doubt there was any real truth to the trade rumors. It was just interesting discussion. But if Jones were to be traded, I would bet it's an amicable trade to the Seahawks - because he wants to.
If they trade him the new line will be that Jones is great but what we got is even more so. I think this is just Rex's way of trying to drive the price up.
That's what they said before we drafted a QB in the 1st round. Hasn't hurt his standing with the public, now has it? Whatever happens, that is exactly what he needs to say in this situation because it's ambiguously awesome. Either we drive up his trade value, or reaffirm his standing with the team. Brilliant.
Obviously none of us knows what Ryan and Tannenbaum are really thinking about any of these issues, but I certainly don't agree that trading Jones would cost Ryan any credibility. I don't think most fans care about these kinds of statements, I don't think teams care about the fans who do care about them, and if any players think that these statements mean anything like a guarantee, they're crazy, and haven't been paying attention to the last 80+ years of NFL football.
If Ryan had any inkling at all that Jones might be traded he would never say what he did there. Like I said, he would never be trusted by the media again..everythime he said anything they would say, "oh yeah, like with Jones"..
So he wouldn't be trusted by the media - who cares? Was Parcells? He lied all the time, and the media congratulated him for being smart. Mangini actually tried not to lie by saying nothing at all, and the media attacked him for it. If Ryan wins games he'll be congratulated, if he loses them he'll be attacked, just like every other coach.
"I feel good about the quarterback situation," Ryan told anyone who would listen last week in Dana Point, Calif. "Everyone seems to think we have major issues there. I don't think the situation is what people think it is. I think we're going to be just fine." Quote given by Ryan 1 month before the Jets traded up to the 5th overall pick to draft Mark Sanchez.
Have you just started following football this week? The FO lies all the time, everyone knows not to tae anything the HC or GM says seriously.
Good point!! Tanny also said a few days before the draft (interview with Fatcessa), he doesn't expect to make a trade in the draft and "plans on drafting at #17". Also, Rex isn't a cap expert and doesn't mange the finances of the NYJ. Bottom line.....keeping TJ for 2009 decreases his value in 2010. There is no F....in way the Jets keep TJ and pay him 7 mill for 2010.
Who cares? He has started his whole style with the media based on telling them what he thinks and holding nothing back...he cares, that's who. Look, if he said "we have no plans to trade him" or "it's not how we are thinking" or anything else that was ambigious it would be different. He flat out said whoever started that rumor is and idiot and they won't trade him. (More or less)
I hope you won't be devastated when his first statements that turn out not to be true become apparent.
