eric smith has set the bar quite low for being the starting safety of the jets.

listen, I agree that merriweather is not a great cover safety. But dude, who is? Again, there is just a serious dearth of quality cover safeties out there. Anyone we pick up in FA is going to be flawed.

I hear you. Landry will require more money though and he can't stay on the field. And what really sucks is that the draft is supposedly not deep at the safety position at all. I've said if forever but we really need to upgrade our safety play if we want to improve this defense.

#Jets investigating safety market. As expected, interest in LaRon Landry. Also Brandon Meriweather, confirming this morning's report.

good. Along with RT (and forgetting about the Qb debate for a minute), the two safety positions are absolutely the weakest on the team.

Meriweather and Nelson would definitely upgrade the JETS safety position. I don't want to watch Eric Smith chasing after a defender anymore.

I am letting REX sign the players he wants. I think he knows defensive personnel a bit better then most fans.

You know this thought crossed my mind many times during the season. I get that Rex thought Kerry was a bit of a pussy (he was), but he is easily the best free safety we have had in the last half dozen years.

Yes Rex knows the players better than any of us --that said our safety play last year was horrendous and that is what Rex put on the field ! I believe we need not 1 but 2 safeties----we do not know if leonhard will be back and Smith = yuck ! I do not hate Poole but we are hurting at saftey big time.

PS The guy that mentioned the " prancing pony " by name should be banned,,,typing his name along with any mention of Rich Kotite should be a federal crime

I disagree. rex has played against him and knows what he is capable of. If a team has the money, the players will come! Rex allegedly is the guy all the players want to play for. How did you formulate your opinion ?

I disagree. Rex has played against him and knows what he is capable of and how he would fit in with REX's schemes. If a team has the money, the players will come! Besides Rex allegedly is the guy all the players want to play for. How did you formulate your opinion ?

not permission per se but rather backing his decisions and the team as well. I do not know more football then he does and I doubt most fans do either!
