That's bull. Novak was strong competition. He ended up with the job in San Diego and did well. Both kicked well during the pre-season and the Jets chose to stay with Folk since they kind of knew what they had with him rather than risk bringing in the new guy. You can argue that they picked the wrong guy (in hindsight only) but you can't argue that the competition was a sham.
I felt Novak outkicked Folk last preseason. Not by a lot but I think he was slightly better. Also you know Folk is a 70 percentile head case kicker. Why not give a new guy who is kicking well a shot.
Am I the only one who wished we upgraded this position? Guy was bottom third in the NFL in FG % both years he was with us. We couldnt get or even look into Feely or Buehler?
I feel the same. Seems like they are open to competition, so I'm hoping they bring somebody in who is better and clearly wins the job.
Hope we get someone that beats him out in camp so we can cut him. Don't trust him in the clutch at all. He also doesn't have half the leg of most of the kickers in the league.
Folk is average at best. Sometimes, he had great moments, sometimes not. Most importantly, the Jets need a great punter.
3/5 on FGs beyond 50 last season (one of them was like a 62 yarder). I don't care if he has a weak leg, if he can kick at 60% beyond 50 yards, that's not weak for a PK.
