Positives - Powell looks like he can be an immediate contributor if Greene gets nicked up McKnight- didn't look as tentative running the ball, think he gets some touches this yr and has game breaking speed Baker/Cumberland- I like both of these kids as pass catching TE's, unfortunately we need another blocking TE (Mulligan) so I don't see Baker sticking around. Turner- Looked slow last year, seemed to have gained some quickness. With his height he could be a factor. Mauga- Seems to play fast, w high motor. Greene- Looks in postseason form Mason/Holmes Revis/Cro-No worries there Dline-Loved what I saw from Ropati, Ellis, Dixon in particular, but most of the Dline seemed to hold their ground and will make things easy on our LB's. Kerley - seems legit Negatives Ducasse- I wont panic b/c he still needs time to develop but man he looked lost. Rob Turner- will be a big blow if he goes down, pushing Ducasse I would presume into Jumbo package. Bellore- I know this kid got a lot of praise in camp, but he seemed out of position on more than one occasion. On goal line play, what the hell what he doing? Punting- Inconsistent Most of backup Oline got pushed around. Backup Secondary also looked bad, especially in 2 minute drill. #32 Jennings, listed as RB, got burned a few times. Not sure why he's playing CB. Cook also caught out of position. LB's still not covering RB's
I liked McElroy for his ability to stand in the pocket, also his ability to make me laugh. All in all, Im not upset. Its preseason, It's game 1, It's no big deal. It was good to see McElroy survive his first NFL game with no injury from all those sacks and pretty good numbers.
Agree with this assessment. I was annoyed with Ducasse, but that's what happens when you take a developmental pick and a lockout happens.
On a serious note. I am extremely happy about the potential that this team has on the d-line. Wilkerson looked good, Ellis although not ready to start looks like he has the potential to be an excellent players on this team and Ropati/Dixon will provide amazing depth on this team. To be honest it seems like we have too much talent at the position. =D My interest tailed off at the end as I was trying to pay attention to Westerman but, did anyone pay attention to Jarron Gilbert? Going back to Westerman can someone give me a breakdown of what they thought of him? IMO he didn't look very impressive at all (in all fairness though I was paying more attention to Wilkerson and Ellis). Other Bright Spots Greene looks in mid season form, possibly even better. Bilal Powell looks like he could be a steal. Kerley, although had some drops (to be fair they were bad throws), looks like the real deal. He has some a swagger about him that reminds me of Santana Moss. Patrick Turner looked crisp out there, caught the ball well. I want to see him go against some better cb competition before I say hes ready to get some playing time. The white WR DeParma, I think was his name looked very quick. Would be interesting to see if we keep him on the ps squad as a possible kr/pr. Mauga played well spelling Bart Scott. What did you guys think about McKnight (Joe)?
Is Brunell looking good for P2?? Cuz I kinda would rather see more of McElroy. We know what Brunell offers. Let this kid get his feet wet as much as possible.
-Cumberland looks like he can be a threat. -Payne looks like he loves to play ST -Patrick Turner could be a big target -Kerley is fearless going for the ball, I didn't see any hesitation on his part to climb the ladder - McElroy has the same arm he had in college but he showed a lot of determination. He plays like a #3 right now which is all he needs to be. -McKnight took a lot of punishment up the middle and kept going. He's come a long way. -Wilson is getting his head around. -JOSH FUCKING MAUGA
