It's nice that he's playing well but finding a long time QB solution is still the number 1 priority for this franchise. The moment we are out of the playoffs, Petty and Hack should finish the rest of the year. And this entire season will have been a missed opportunity.
Lol I was joking about Chad. I have a subtle sarcastic sense of humor. I agree the whole idea behind the Hack pick was stupid. We had one of the only spread OCs in the league and instead of taking a talented spread prospect, we take the pro-style guy who airmails receivers.
Either Hack or Petty won't be on the roster next season. The FO/CS had all offseason and gave them the chance to win the job in practice and preseason. They couldn't. I don't know why there's this perception of TB as a complete curmudgeon. If Hack or Petty had really impressed the CS I assume they'd be starting. I thinking hoping/expecting either of them could make the leap in the offseason was why we didn't swing on a QB in the draft last year. FO/CS hoped either could turn the corner; have our proverbial cake in solving our getting-massacred-by-deep-passes problem along with the 'safe' Adams pick, and still have some young hope at QB. When the young guys didn't progress, it became McCowntown. The Jets will almost certainly extended McCown if he continues to play at the level he has this season. But Mac isn't a moron, he'll try and get a younger QB with longer-term prospects in there as well, either through FA or the Draft. My guess is he *wants* to solve it with the draft but will have to wait for the offseason to hit to look at how much draft capital it's going to cost to make that move. My guess is too much, though if we end up something like 6-10 it's certainly possible. (And, I know none of us love McCown as a long-term starter, but by god he'd be a fantastic backup.)
Just pray that Morton and Bates commit to the new rookies' development instead of the using the Chan Gailey method of QB training aka: ignore and neglect.
I don't think we should count on the draft. SF, Browns, Colts, Giants, maybe even Bucs, Bears and Bengals will draft before we do. Just forget it, the best thing we can do is sign Cousins, I'm on his bandwagon after that Seattle game. McCown, a 2nd rounder and Hack for the next year is just not acceptable to me. And when it comes to Petty and Hack, the leadership obviously has no confidence in them, neither of them will play unless they absolutely have to. We will not see them playing this season for sure.
Cousins is not going to be available unless we ante up an insane amount of money. And we're not close to vying for a championship next season anyway.
Well, I'm looking at it this way: we need to get a QB and that's gonna cost us. Either we ante up a lot of money or we give up a lot of draft picks. What worries me the most about Cousins is will he get severely injured by the end of the season because he's been getting absolutely trampled because of their OL being trash.
A team like the Bucs getting in the 3 spot of the draft can be a prime trade up partner for the Jets. All the more reason to beat them on Sunday. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
That's fine. I understand your perspective. THIS was the year to play Petty and Hack since it is the first year of the rebuild, but Bowles wouldn't have any of it. In the end it really doesn't matter to me anyway. If Bowles and McCown are back, I won't be. My days as a Jets fan will be over.
The question for the available QB field is whether or not Darnold decides to come out and not return to college if the Giants are serious about drafting him. If so it solidifies the QB's coming out for the draft. Cleveland will surely take a QB (then again it's Cleveland so I shouldn't be so certain), SF made a move for their QB so depending on how things turn out over the balance of the season the Jets could still get a top QB with their pick or move up to get one. Stranger things have happened but right now Chicago, Tampa, Indy and Houston don't seem likely to pick a QB in round 1. Cincinnati, Denver and LA Chargers could very well select a QB but I think the Jets wind up with fewer wins than any of these 3. If the Jets pick ahead of these 3 teams but wind up behind the others above Mac better assume one of these 3 will package picks / players to move up so he needs to cut the 1st deal to get their QB. Looking at the other teams schedules I'd say 5 wins by the Jets should allow them to select a QB without moving up, with 6 wins it gets real dicey. This upcoming game against Tampa and the Chargers game imho will determine the Jets draft fate. With Mike Evans out I think Tampa pulls a KC and makes heavy use of Brate and OJ Howard this weekend which could open up things for Martin to have a big day. They've played well at home with close losses against NE and CAR and with the Shitxpatrick factor they will dink and dunk all day. DeSean Jackson will enjoy a nice day off with Shitz unable to reach him.
I agree with you that Petty/Hack should have been playing and McCown should've been the "Mentor QB" but this year was never going to end up being that with Bowles "coaching and fighting" for his future. Also, I don't think anyone could've really predicted that if McCown started, he would end up having what is a career year and being able to stay injury free.
Everyone talks like our first round pick is going to be a qb. Don't be surprised if they pass on a good qb and go OL. Sorry to say I think the CS still has faith in hack & petty. I think a good qb will be there for the take when we pick. How many teams need a qb. Browns, cards, maybe jax, maybe broncos. Depending on how the Draft goes we should end up with a stud qb or a stud OL. If I had to pick who I thought the jets were going to end up Drafting I would say qb Oklahoma State's Mason Rudolph with our pick between 10 & 15.
Why does 2017 have a "Fitz1.0" feel to it? Fitz signs deal, plays over his head, misses playoffs but gets next contract. McCown signs deal, plays over his head, misses playoffs but gets next contract.. Almost like we're living "Groundhog Day" the movie in real life.
I have to say, considering the effects it would have on this board and some members, I am all for Bowles and mccown being back next year
I think Petty is a known commodity. He is a back up caliber QB who will probably stick around the NFL like Kellen Clemens. I don't think we need to see any more of him to know that. Hackenberg is the real question, but unfortunately, the answer is bloody diarrhea.
