I totally agree. Didn't mean to sound like I don't care if we make the playoffs. I'm saying it's a huge disappointment if we are 1 and done. Hell, after 2 straight title games, not making the SB should be a huge letdown. I just don't see the Jets making any impact in the playoffs. That would be a step back and a damn shame.
How did all the Patriot fans get 5000 + posts on this board? I dont give a shit how bad we play i would never wish my team to not make the playoffs. All it takes is some green and a dream.... GO JETS!!!!!!!!!!!!
Apparently my tiebreaker calculations were incorrect. The relevant tiebreaker will most likely be "strength of victory" - a category where we hold a 10 game lead vs. the Bengals as of now (per Manish Mehta). I was incorrectly calculating "net points" instead of "strength of victory" So, basically, it's win and in.
Lets say we get the sixth seed. Is there any scenario possible in which we could play the Broncos and then the Texans in the divisional round? If we play decent football that would be a great way to get back to the afccg. Ballsy talk after a loss like this I know.
Unfortunately, no. We could not get Denver in Round 1 because if they get in AND we get in then they are the 4 seed and we are the 6. We would be (most likely) @ HOU and the would play Pitt.
Very unlikely, if not impossible. For that to happen the Texans would need to grab the one seed, and the Broncos would get the 3. Off hand I don't think thats possible. As the 6 seed, if we did make the playoffs, we'd play the Texans most likely in round 1 (AFC west prob grabs the 4 seed), then whoever the 1 seed is.
nope......we would need the Texans to finish first overall to play them in the second round. Which would also mean we would need Denver to finish 3rd. Which is just about impossible
Give me Houston first round then, we can beat them and anything else after that is house money. Hell, its all house money really. All this pending on whether we even get in.
I just don't get how anyone in this fan base can have this kind of attitude after the last two years. 09: The Jets were 7-7 after a loss to ATL and we thought they were done. '10: the Jets lost to the Pats and Fins in back to back weeks and we thought they were done. Regroup and get back to running the football and playing sound defense next week.
That is true, but i also think we had a much better Oline and atleast a little better pass rush compared to now. Sanchez is getting killed back there this year. I hope something gels, but 11s team isn't 09 or 10s. Also, someone is very quick to quit on the run game early in games this year.
This team seems to go as the OL goes. We absolutely have to run the football to win games... Establishing the run opens everything up for our passing game. Sanchez is not carving anyone up in 3/4 WR sets against nickel/dime packages.
nobody is saying we need to just that if we do we are guaranteed. that being said, no fucking shit the Jets can lose and still make it. that isn't the point. by that dumb ass position the Bengal fans can be saying "we don't need to win out, even if we lose to the Ravens the last game as long as the Jets lose both games we make it." in case you didn't realize it, people make this scenarios based on the most simple and likely outcomes. hell, the Jets could lose both games and still make the playoffs. sure, that's really what we should be hoping for or anticipating, so lets discuss it.
except can you really look at this season and say the Jets have played sound defense as a whole? of course not, so there is nothing to really indicate they can do so going forward. at this point all we can hang our hopes on is to get in the playoffs and hope we can win. and taking your "look at the last couple of years" position, when I look at the last couple of years I came into the season expecting to win in the playoffs, which meant I expected to be a better team. unfortunately this season has shown we aren't as good as we expected the team to progress to be considering the last two seasons, and all we are left with is hoping to win. hoping to win is simply disappointing; the last two years created an expectation to win which hasn't been fulfilled.
There were times in 09 and 10 that the defense couldn't "close out games" or where the offense was inept. This is a streaky team, they lose games, they don't go 14-2, but they're still in the hunt and could still be in the playoffs. This team has shown it is not an easy out in the playoffs. One doesn't expect the fumble-itis to continue but it's also been a major problem all year long. The one concern I have at the moment is surrounding the OL. That has been the one constant the last three years, and they've been inconsistent this year -specifically Hunter.
The Jets may make it by process of elimination, the Bengals have a surging Arizona team and a Baltimore team that's still fighting for the division. The Titans clearly arent very good and may start a rookie at QB for the last 2 games. The Raiders have the Chiefs who just beat the Packers and the Ravens who just smoked the Ravens.
I'm going to get flamed here. The only playoff spot the Jets will get is 6th. There's a good chance they have to go up to Foxboro and there's a pretty slim chance the Jets win that game. I'd rather miss the playoffs than go 0-3 v. the Patriots.
