If we get less than 10 wins, I'll be very disappointed. No more sneaking into the playoffs, let's actually dominate for once.
Making the playoffs is the most important thing no doubt, but I think securing a home playoff game is huge. 12-4 would get us at least one. Taking down Manning is hard enough, let alone having to do it in his perfect-condition dome.
If Sanchez plays like he did in the playoffs the Jets are easily a 14 + win team and easily favorites for the superbowl. If Sanchez plays like he did in the regular season. 10-11 wins is far more likely.
My take (Home games bolded) Week 1 - Ravens (WIN) Week 2 - Pats (WIN) Week 3 - Dolphins (LOSS) Week 4 - Bills (WIN) Week 5 - Vikings (LOSS) Week 6 - Broncos (WIN) Week 7 - BYE Week 8 - Packers (WIN) Week 9 - Lions (WIN) Week 10 - Browns (WIN) Week 11 - Texans (WIN) Week 12 - Bengals (WIN) Week 13 - Patriots (LOSS) Week 14 - Dolphins (WIN) Week 15 - Steelers (LOSS) Week 16 - Bears (WIN) Week 17 - Bills (WIN) I've got 12-4 just by doing that quick pick 'em analysis. I think we'll land at 11-5 though.
I love the optimism, but 14-15 wins may be a bit too optimistic. It'll depend on how quickly this team can gel together, as there's no doubt that, just strictly based on talent, that the Jets are one of the best teams in the league. If the team can come together as a cohesive unity early on in the season, then 14-15 wins may not be entirely out of the question. I'm thinking that somewhere between 10-12 wins, however, is where the Jets are more likely to finish, though.
well I expect to win 14 or 15 games as well. 11 or 12 in the regular season, and 3 postseason victories works for me.
I don't see why the playoff performances should represent a ceiling for Sanchez, I think he can do better still.
:drunk: You're the epitomy of sunshiner. Our schedule is tough as nails, letdowns happen and this is the NFL. The AFC is loaded with playoff-calibre teams. I expect 11-5/10-6 and the division crown. No fucking way we (or anyone else in the AFC) wins 14 games. If Sanchez plays like he did in the reg season of 2009 we won't make the playoffs.
Considering the team has never won more than 12 (and the one time we did that it included a win that would have been overturned with replay), I'm not sure we should set expectations quite that high. 11 or 12 wins and a division title would be great.
With the #1 offensiveline, #1 defense, #1 cornerback/defensive player period, #1 ground attack, and best group of receivers in the nfl by a long shot I dont see why not. With Braylon as #1 Holmes #2 Cotch #3 Coles #4 and Keller if Sanchez continued what he had in the playoffs his numbers could totally look like Aaron Rodgers (if we actually threw the ball that much) Far as the schedule Week 1 - Ravens (WIN due to the Ravens secondary being in shreds) Week 2 - Pats (WIN) Week 3 - Dolphins (win) Week 4 - Bills (WIN) Week 5 - Vikings (win lets be honest, that Favre magic cant handle the#1 pass defense and their recievers have no shot vs our corners) Week 6 - Broncos (WIN) Week 7 - BYE Week 8 - Packers (WIN a team that relies 100% on its passing offense to win has no shot against the nfls best pass defense) Week 9 - Lions (WIN) Week 10 - Browns (WIN) Week 11 - Texans (WIN) Week 12 - Bengals (WIN beat them twice last year easily why not 3 times) Week 13 - Patriots (LOSS) Week 14 - Dolphins (WIN) Week 15 - Steelers (Another team that completely relies on its aerial attack, and is missing their best WR and its ground game is in pieces) Week 16 - Bears (WIN) Week 17 - Bills (WIN) Seriously this schedule is NOT as tough as it looks on paper. The Ravens are going to be missing a ton of key players vs us (if the Ravens were healthy id admit that we certainly could lose that game) , the Steelers are a broken team, the Bengals are relying on old / oft injured recievers and a QB who lost his magic, the Texans whole team relies on 1 player that Revis will shut down and the Packers are a 1 trick pony. I dont find this schedule the slightest bit intimidating. I dont honestly expect us to go 15-1 (or even 14-2 assuming wed randomly lose another game) but if Sanchez breaks out I wouldnt be the slightest bit shocked if it happens. This is NOT a tough schedule. I mean there are teams out there that I think are capable of beating us, Titans, Colts, Saints, Cowboys, Chargers are teams i think we could lose to (or beat), the teams that were playing just dont match up against us quite as well.
You're forgetting about the parity of the NFL. I hate to bust out the cliche 'Any given Sunday' bullshit but it actually holds true. When you have so many mid-tier teams on one schedule you WILL lose some games. Also, anyone who's been following the NFL for a while now realizes how contenders drop games they're supposed to win every year. Ravens, Broncos, Texans, Steelers, Bengals, Vikings, Bears, Dolphins, Patriots, and Packers are all teams with playoff aspirations. You think we can go 14-2?! Dude, if we go 14-2 I will buy you a 2010 Nissan GTR.
Oh I know we could easily go out there and lose to the Bills (again). Which is why I think it being a 14-2 year Sanchez breaking out would be an absolute necessity. If he could avg 250 yards 2 tds - 1 int a game (slightly better than his playoff numbers, but now he gets + Holmes + Coles) with the rest of our team anythings possible. Just for shits and giggles looking at last years schedule, if Sanchez didnt go nuclear in several games we would have only lost 3 or 4 games. (DEFINITELY would of beaten bills, DEFINITELY woulda beat Atlanta, Definitely woudla beat jacksonville, then who knows what woulda happened @ NO and @ NE (where Sanchez was horrific )That woulda meant 12-4 13-3 and our team is definitely better this year or last. Not saying were gonna do that well, but I truly think we could depending on what happens with Sanchez (and injuries!)
