I liked Kerley.... too bad he was left our in the cold this year. Sent from my SGH-M919 using Tapatalk
Well if they are not going to play him, freeing up $1.3million is better than paying him $3.1million to fair catch punts
The Jets will draft or sign a big fast TE now that Cumberland is gone and that would have cemented Kerley's place on the bench even more, this was a no-brainer. Oh wait, I forgot they already may have one.
Seems strange since you have the carbon copy in D. Lewis....although if Lewis goes down again pop powell. That would be a nice tandem ..
Lewis is niftier, but Powell can do some different things. I just read the Pats have been talking with CJ Anderson.
I always liked Kerley too. He's one of the few players that I actually wanted them to draft and they did. He was a better player in college. He just isn't fast or quick enough given his small stature to be that successful in the NFL. Unlike other posters here, I don't think there's any mystery or any such nonsense as Bowles hating him or Gailey hating him for some reason. I just think that he's not that good, or at least what he does well, doesn't fit in well with what the Jets want to do offensively. I wish him well.
Even though I like the guy he was the odd man out and for a fair catch PR not worth the $. My only issues is he should have been a June 1st then would have only been a 600k cap hit
How is he not good? I get if you don't think he's great or anything, but he was definitely a good #3 receiver at the least.
Easily, because he rarely saw the field. Gailey and Bowles are not stupid. They played the players that they thought gave them the best chance to win. If he's a good #3 WR, he would have seen the field a lot. He didn't. Gailey has a track record of finding ways to utilize talent. It doesn't strike you as odd that he couldn't with Kerley? Maybe it's because we all overrated Kerley to begin with. He looked good for his first few years with the Jets because we had no talent. Then we actually get some real WR talent here and Kerley disappears. Coincidence? Me thinks not. Perhaps Kerley pouted all year and never put forth effort. If so, that's on him. The Jets also wanted their WRs to be able to play any position. Kerley can't. He's basically a slot receiver. Decker, Marshall, Enunwa, and possibly even Amaro are all better than Kerley in the slot. Listen, I like Kerley and despise Amaro, but even I can see the talent difference. Kerley has little flexibility, he's not that fast or quick, and not an aggressive-type player (hence all the fair catches).
Kerley was exposed this year. We were signing guys off waivers to play ahead of him. He was also shit in the return game. I was fooled for a few years, but it's very obvious he's a journeyman 4th WR at best.
