Not how I remember it. Leon Hess gave him a $1MM bonus to stick around after Parcells was gone, but when Leon died BB decided he no longer needed to honor the unwritten gentleman's agreement--in effect prying a big pile of dough out of a cold dead hand. Also, if I recall he skipped out and hid in the gym and was on a treadmill when he wrote the note, then came out to meet the press to deliver the rambling message and the resignation. _
