Just fyi, that article needs to be corrected. He is not yet license to practice medicine as he hasn't performed, let alone completed, any time in residency training...or I guess they call it in Canada "discipline-appropriate postgraduate medical training". I was gonna say, how in the world did he manage to graduate medical school in 2018 and do residency while playing pro football full time?
I'm not putting down LDT in any way when I say anyone could play better than Greg Van Roten. GVR was one of the very worst players the Jets had and unfortunately, due to injuries, the Jets were forced to play him every week. He was just the DISEASE that kept on giving and never quite went away. I want him off the team period. I would rather go into tc with LDT, UDFA, Dan Feeney, and a totally unproven Cam Clarke coming off two season ending injuries than be forced to watch GVR again..
If LDT sees his future in medicine, then I would say he's probably done with pro football. You have to be all in or out. If this is even a consideration for LDT, just wish him well and let him go. Spend the money elsewhere.
Completely agree. These are 2 opposing professions you need to be all in on. If you half ass it on one, people die, with the other, you get your teammates hurt.
I saw his interview yesterday. He certainly made it sound like he plans on being part of the team next year.
This snowballs on top of the long standing discussion on whether a traffic cone or turnstyle would be more effective. It gos back at least as far as Wayne Hunter. You have now introduced a third alternative...the trashcan, but I think there are more variables with the trash can: Is it empty or full? plastic or metal? I for one would prefer an empty plastic trash can to Van Roten.
We used to use the traffic cone description for a cornerback 3 or 4 seasons back it wasn't the expensive and useless FA Trumaine Johnson who could easily have had his own cone reference but Buster Skrine. God we have had to watch some crap in our time supporting this team
It's not always the line's fault. Defenses are always going to "test" rookie QBs to see if they handle the rush. Until Wilson learns what to do to beat a rush, they'll keep doing it.
Honestly I think GVR was even worse than The Turnstile. Could be recency bias but I don't think I can recall a starting Jets OL as bad as GVR was.
