The value of velocity compared to accuracy will vary depending upon the strategy your OC wants to employ. But, in the past, velocity has been underrated in the NFL in my opinion. As an earlier poster pointed out...it isn't just about stretching the field vertically. NFL defenders are faster and quicker to react than at the college level. The longer the ball is in the air, the greater chance they have to break up the play. I think accuracy is more important than velocity when you're grading a QB but I suspect that the successful OCs in today's NFL will be giving more weight to velocity than coaches have in the past. I hope Patrick Ramsey turns out to be as nice a surprise for your team as Santana Moss was for my Redskins this past season.
Ramseyfan has good points but i doubt, GOOD HC would draft or sign a QB with a strong arm and no accuracy. When i mentioned a strong armed QB it was a given he would be accurate aswell.
Roethlisberger for example, would he be getting all the hype or play the way he is with an arm like pennys or leinarts? He wouldnt. That pass in the playoffs where he threw on the run to hines at the very back of the endzone that just went over the reach of the DB's. Would have been intercepted if it was a weak arm QB.
The only way I see us drafting Leinart is if he's available at #4. Even then, I'd rather not select him.
