Shaun Ellis - Herm almost ruined him by switching him to DT. Bryan Thomas - Did nothing the whole Herm tenure. Jon McGraw - If he is 'developed', then you have low expectations. Dewayne Robertson - see above Jonathan Vilma - Only good one, but arguably would have been good anywhere Jerricho Cotchery - Sat him. Case closed. Erik Coleman - Definitely had potential, but did Herm bring that out like his rookie year, or somehow stifle it, leading to him disappearing? Kerry Rhodes - Can't argue with this one
The one thing I will add is during the whole Herm/Bradway tenure, it almost felt like we were becoming 'Kansas City East'. By that I mean (and I mean no offense to the original poster) more of a 500 team that was kinda.. I dont know how to put it...'gentle'? 'Vanilla'? I actually don't mind the Chiefs, but even during their playoff runs and their years with a high powered offense, 'tough' and 'bruising' are never words you would associate with them. They were always (almost frustratingly) like a favorite Aunt and Uncle... Fun to be around, but kinda... Harmless. Thats actually the perfect word. The Jets, much like the Chiefs, became 'Harmless' during the Herm era... Both to other teams (cough), but mainly in people's perception. Both teams could be considered 'nice'. Not really the image you want to portray.
i will speak on a couple of them.... and i really dont ever have anything good to say about that sack of shit herm edwards. ellis - someone touched on it further up this page, he really screwed this kid out of 1 if not 2 years of production by trying to make him a dt, had him add all sorts of weight that he would just have to take back off again. complete and total stupidity and hurt the kid pretty bad in doing it. really had him on a yo yo. moss - i cant tell you how many times i sat in the meadowlands and watched the fb go out as the slot receiver on 3 wr sets when we had santana moss standing on the sideline, moss should have gotten far more looks when sperm was here. however i think sperm and his wonderful cs thought they would "confuse" the defense by putting a big slow fb out in the slot. worked out great for moss when he went to washington and actually got the ball. or even to play. i really am sorry to kc for what has happened to them but many of us here called it when they took the sperm. had an aging line and really a aging team.... so herm goes in and claims rebuild for the next 4 years and leaves you in worse shape than when he got there. but THANK GOD HE LEFT!!!!!
Wow! Washington for Herm Edwards. I never realized that was the player you got with that pick. You guys made off like bandits!
Another fun fact about the Herm for Leon trade is that Leon was the 117th pick in the 2006 draft. That was the year Reggie Bush went #2. Many fans wanted the Jets to trade up and get Bush, but Mangini knew all along that he had his Bush-like player waiting in the fourth round.
You're not comparing him to Bush, are you? I would agree he is a fourth round version of him but he is no Bush.
He's done just as much if not more than Reggie Bush and made a bigger impact on his team. So, regardless of talent level in the pre-draft discussions, Leon will most likely go down as the better player -- at least that's what it looks like thus far. Given the number of touches he has per game, it isn't even close.
You're kidding, right? Bush leads his team in rushing yards, receiving yards and receptions most of the time. When he doesn't he comes close. Washington is a great role player but that is all he is. He doesn't start so how can you compare the two?
Nope, I'm serious. Leon has single handedly made the difference between winning and losing for us in the chiefs game, as well as the pats game. The only reason Bush "leads his team" (with somewhat paltry numbers I might mention) is because Deuce hasn't been playing. Bush has five TDs this year. Leon has 5 TDs this year. Bush has 3 fumbles as well and a grand total of 294 yards rushing on 87 touches. Leon has 240 yards on 51 touches. Same TD total... maybe it's not popular to point these things out but Leon's career thus far is comparable if not favorable compared to Bush's (aside from all the hype).
I'm sorry, but the idea that Mangini or anyone else on the Jets (or anyone else in the entire NFL) had Leon higher on their draft board than Bush is preposterous. Sometimes a fourth rounder (or a player even more obscure) just surprises everyone. It happens all the time. Donald Driver was a 7th rounder. Even Johnny Unitas as a rookie was cut from training camp by the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Wasn't it Herm who decided to waste one of Ellis' early years and make him a fat-assed DT? Also, wasn't the reason for Rhodes' seeing the field due in no small part that Reggie "I suck badly" Tongue was injured in Rhodes' first year?
My statement was very much tongue-in-cheek. I thought the  at the end of the statement made that clear.
Well, he has missed the last 3 games but also, you left out his 42 receptions and 366 yards in 6 games. Nobody is taking Washington for granted but you just can't compare the two until they both are starters.
