Because of his ability to go helmet to helmet? With the way the NFL calls games now he was very lucky he didn't get flagged or even tossed for that hit.
They let a ton of shit go on both sides during the playoffs...but Smith was called for a hit on Welker @home in the reg season and it wasn't as bad. But if you rewatch Welker (& Woodhead too) make themself smaller and put their heads down everytime they feel a hit coming... Eric Smith actually went to hit him w/the shoulder and their helmets connected on the side. That was a piece of the sticker from their Helmet Logo... Not a "Piece of Helmet"
Since we're puting Eric Smith videos in here, here's Diggs highlights for 2010 alone
All true but the way the NFL is protecting receivers these days a player who hits like Smith did in that video is going to get the flag, a fine, or an ejection as often as not.
Good video. It's not all from 2010 though-the hit on Cromartie and the plays against TB are from earlier, for example.
I'm trying to avoid thinking about all the FA's we have and all we need to sign until we can actually act on it. If i think too much about it I start to get anxious.
y'all are killin me with these dig vids... i really just want football... ASAP. on topic: dig & pool have to stay imo.
huh, i've always thought of Digs as a big hitter, but (at least in that video), he's a good tackler... good form, wraps up. Hopefully he sticks with the team Also, going with the theme of this thread, I think bringing back Brodney Pool for year 2 in the system would be huge. He played really well towards the end of the season & the post season
what this videos shows is he should be our OLB ... the question has always been about his ability to cover... at least the TE...
You realize you would have been freaking out about that kick no matter who the kicker was right? If Folk is gone we will have another kicker who misses kicks and you will continue to flip shit when he lines up for a game winner.
Freaking out about THAT kick? Yeah, because of the the circumstances. Would I be freaking out a little less if it was Jay Feely? Probably. The stats don't lie: http://www.nfl.com/stats/categoryst...y=FIELD_GOAL_KICKER&d-447263-s=KICKING_FG_PCT 77% conversion rate (32nd out of 39 kickers last year) 30-39 Of the 9 he missed (regular season) 6 were make-able and 3 were chip shots. Like I said, if he wins in camp, fine. But under no circumstances has he earned the job based on last season alone.
Quite a list there, and I agree with two exceptions. If we could keep everyone, then we'd be well on our way to the AFC Championship again. Luckily, these guys know this and like playing for Rex Ryan, so there is a good chance a lot of these guys do come back. Wayne Hunter, RT: I completely agree with your assessment. A full offseason would have been great, but I think by Week 4 we'd be like "Woody who?" Robert Turner, OG/C: We need Turner to play the 6th OLinemen in our heavy set formations. That is not a plug and play position. There are a lot of blocking reads to make from motioning into and out of the backfield and couple that with knowing two OL positions. His penalties are non-sensical but he is clearly one of Ryan's favorites so he'll get a pass for them. Brodney Pool, FS: The return of Pool would be great. He is not Ed Reed, but our defense was much better with him in the lineup. Eric Smith/James Ihedigbo, S: Don't forget we have Jim Leonard as well. Would be best to keep both, but one of these guys is expendable with Pool starting and Lowery as a backup. Ryan likes both, but I think we get more for less with Ihedigbo. Better tackler, less penalties. Drew Coleman, CB: Replaceable. He was our 5th best corner last year. If we can resign him for peanuts, then sure. If we don't resign Cromartie or bring in another number 2, then sure. Shaun Ellis, DE: Let him go. We've gotten all we can from him. Steve Weatherford, P: KEEP! I don't get the hate on him. Sure his punts could have been better in the playoffs, but a lot of those punts he had a short field. Can't blame the punter for unlucky bounces and not every punter can be Jeff Feagles and coffin corner the ball. One more yard on that fake and everybody has his back for certain. Clemens - as good as gone Brad Smith - gone Laury - gone Pryce - retired Richardson - retired, hire as running back assistant coach or something similar Folk - I'd rather have consistency at kicker, then a new foot to rely on in the clutch Taylor - gone Jenkins - I would hope they'd resign him at a small price and incentive heavy, but likely gone Woody - weight, injury concerns
Love that play where Smith destroyed Welker and the Pats decal on the side of his helmet! Yes, Eric Smith isnt a great Safety, but he is valuable as a rotational player/backup and a very good Special Teams player. If we can get him at the right price and at the right role then I see no problem with resigning him.
Yeah that was a great hit. The YouTube vid has been posted a hundred times her by now but this could be used as a sig.
How did I miss Weatherford? A MUST keep, he did leave a sour taste in my mouth from the playoffs but he was so solid in the regular season and the regular season is what got us to the playoffs.
